HA NOI (VNS) — China’s construction of two lighthouses in the Chau Vien (Cuarteron) and Gac Ma (Johnson) reefs in Viet Nam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago was in serious violation of Viet Nam’s sovereignty, stated Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Le Hai Binh yesterday.
The move was contrary to the common perceptions of both countries’ leaders, complicating the situation and escalating tensions, said Binh, in response to reporters’ questions.
“Viet Nam resolutely rejects and strongly protests China’s actions,” he added.
“Once again, we affirm that Viet Nam has full legal and historical evidence for its indisputable sovereignty over the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos. Other countries that conduct activities there without permission from Viet Nam are in breach of international law,” he stated. — VNS
