A total of 40 streets in Hanoi will be shut down to prepare for a massive parade to mark Vietnam’s 70th National Day (September 2).

All types of vehicles, except those having special signs, will not be allowed to enter 40 streets in downtown Hanoi from 9:00 pm on September 1 to 12:00 pm on September 2.

Most of the surrounding streets in Ba Dinh District where a ceremony to commemorate National Day will be organized will be blocked, including Hung Vuong, Chua Mot Cot, Ba Huyen Thanh Quan, Hoang Hoa Tham, Hoang Dieu, Kim Ma and Tran Phu.

The parade will start from Ba Dinh Square and split into two directions, one heading for Nguyen Thai Hoc – Kim Ma – Lieu Giai and the other for Nguyen Thai Hoc – Hang Khay – Trang Tien – The Opera House.

Some other streets which will be closed to vehicles include Trang Thi and Trang Tien in Hoan Kiem District, Nguyen Chi Thanh in Dong Da District, and some roads in Tay Ho District.

The event starts at 7:00 am on Wednesday and will be aired live by national broadcaster Vietnam Television.

A 21-gun salute will be part of the program on the square to celebrate National Day.

High-range fireworks displays lasting about 15 minutes each will take place at five locations from 9:00 pm to 9:15 pm tomorrow.

The venues are Hoan Kiem Lake, Thong Nhat Park, Van Quan Lake, My Dinh National Stadium, and Nguyen Hoang Ton Flower Garden.
