Conversations on Vietnam Development
On 4 August 2015, the EU and Vietnam reached an agreement in principle for a free trade deal. Negotiations for an ambitious and comprehensive FTA were launched in June 2012 with a view to ensuring an effective environment for trade and investment relations.
The EU and Vietnam still need to settle remaining technical issues and finalise the legal text. Once finalised, the agreement will need to be approved by the Council and the Parliament. Tiếp tục đọc “VN – EU Trade”

This will be happening because of an agreement between Viet Nam government agencies and an international environmental organisation.
It will mean that more work will be done to help guards who protect the forests from people wishing to destroy them and the creatures that live in them.

DA NANG — The Viet Nam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST) and the Frankfurt Zoological Society in Viet Nam have inked a five-year conservation plan.

People in the central Quang Nam Province admitted they had been doing things that were wrong. They had been taking rock that has gold in it from a gold mine to get the gold out themselves.

HA NOI (VNS) — Authorities have destroyed 10 tonnes of gold ore from the Bong Mieu gold mine that were handed over by Tam Lanh Commune residents in the central Quang Nam Province.

THAI NGUYEN (VNS) — Police in northern Thai Nguyen province are investigating a severe attack on a local journalist that occurred this morning while he was on his way to work.

HA NOI — About 21 of the 38 projects to upgrade National Highway No 1 from the central Thanh Hoa Province to the southern Can Tho Province have been completed in 18 months.
Head of the Transport Engineering Construction and Quality Management Bureau Tran Xuan Sanh said this at a meeting with the transport ministry for reviewing the progress of the National Highway No 1 upgrade project on Thursday.

Người Việt Nam, vốn là một dân tộc vừa thực dụng vừa ham vui, chẳng có lý do gì mà không mê đọc sách nếu việc đọc ấy đem lại lợi ích hay sự vui thích cho họ. Vì vậy, những lời than phiền gần đây về việc người Việt Nam không ham đọc sách (căn cứ vào số lượng sách được tiêu thụ trên thị trường, vào số lượng người sử dụng thư viện, vào thực tế rất ít người đọc sách trên tàu xe hoặc những nơi công cộng), chỉ có thể được giải thích rằng: họ thấy việc đọc sách ấy không đem lại ích lợi gì hoặc chẳng gây cho họ sự thích thú nào hết.
Nhưng không đọc sách thì có sao không? Thực ra, chẳng sao cả. Một khi không đọc sách vẫn có thể thi đỗ, vẫn có thể làm giàu, vẫn có thể thăng quan tiến chức thì việc đọc sách là thừa. Nghĩa là, một khi xã hội chỉ hướng người ta tới những tham vọng “ngắn hạn và thực dụng” như thế (bằng cấp, tiền bạc, quyền chức), thì người ta chỉ tập trung vào làm những gì để đạt tới những tham vọng ấy một cách nhanh nhất. Mà ở Việt Nam hiện nay, để đạt được những tham vọng ấy thì đọc sách không phải là việc được ưu tiên hàng đầu. (Hiển nhiên là có những con đường khác để đi đến thành công nhanh hơn, chắc chắn hơn, ít phiêu lưu mạo hiểm hơn.)

Vietnam has reached the millennium development goals (MDGs) set by the United Nations, including those related to poverty reduction, and is working hard to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs), the Vietnamese legislature’s leader has said.

Muốn ăn thủy sản ngon, người tiêu dùng phải về tận nơi sản xuất để mua hoặc phải trả nhiều tiền để tới nhà hàng cao cấp là thực trạng của thị trường tiêu thụ thủy sản nội địa. Điều này “đẩy” nhiều loại thủy sản ngoại dần trở nên quen thuộc với người tiêu dùng hơn.

The U.S. and Malaysia have been secretly discussing expanded use of Malaysian territory for hosting U.S. spy planes to patrol the South China Sea, in response to increased Chinese activity in the disputed territory.
Following a series of incursions into Malaysian waters by Chinese vessels in recent months, talks between the U.S. government and the office of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak have intensified, two senior U.S. defense officials said. HA NOI (VNS)— Le Ngoc Tung Hospital in southern Tay Ninh Province has been fined VND1.4 billion (US$62,000) for illegally burying untreated medical waste in a local district.The decision was issued by the People’s Committee of the province, which also ordered the seizure of two vans used by the hospital to transport the medical waste for illegal burial.
Earlier in June, two security guards of the hospital were caught red-handed by the police, when they were burying three packages of medical waste weighing more than 100kg in Chau Thanh District’s Thanh Binh Village.
The police said the packages contained used gloves, needles, bandages and other items.
The two guards admitted they had been burying untreated medical waste there and in some other parts of the province since January 2014.
