As the world marks the 48th annual International Literacy Day on Tuesday, have a look at how children in Vietnam and several Asian countries go to school in this photo feature provided by World Vision Vietnam.

Millions of children across Asia returned to school this month, pursuing their right to education. The new school year in Vietnam officially kicked off on September 5.

While many have schools in their own communities, others have to go on long and difficult journeys to access their education, which is a major challenge in Asia and the Pacific.

In remote villages, schools are often far away and difficult to reach. The distance from home to school is one of the reasons why 26.3 million children are out of school in Asia and the Pacific, according to UNESCO. Designing resilient infrastructure systems will require collaborative efforts by engineers and social scientists.

Urban societies depend heavily on the proper functioning of infrastructure systems such as electric power, potable water, and transportation networks. Normally invisible, this reliance becomes painfully evident when infrastructure systems fail during disasters. Moreover, because of the network properties of infrastructure, damage in one location can disrupt service in an extensive geographic area. The societal disruption caused by infrastructure failures is therefore disproportionately high in relation to actual physical damage. People using cellphones while driving will likely be fined up to US$35.6 in the near future, according to a draft decree of the Ministry of Transport detailing penalties for traffic law violators.

WWF – August 14th – 24th 2015, seafood certified as responsibly farmed in Vietnam will be officially available for the domestic market at many eateries. The certification denotes the seafood has met strict standards that ensure food safety and minimize environmental impact. This is part of Sustainable Seafood Week 2015, organized by WWF-Vietnam, to introduce the world’s newest trend in stylish dining: sustainability.

In support of responsible production and products, which have gained worldwide popularity and become a significant indicator of a modern, healthy and positive lifestyle, the Sustainable Seafood Week with the message “Eat in style – Know the origin”, is urging Vietnamese consumers to join the international call for products from responsible sources.

Ông Trương Đình Tuyển vẫn cảm thấy day dứt khi nhớ về quyết định thành lập Cục Quản lý cạnh tranh nằm dưới ô của Bộ Thương mại, khi ông còn làm bộ trưởng bộ này. Cơ chế đó vô hình trung đã vô hiệu hóa vai trò và hoạt động của cơ quan vốn rất quan trọng để đảm bảo cạnh tranh trong nền kinh tế thị trường mà Việt Nam đeo đuổi. Có lần, lãnh đạo Cục Quản lý cạnh tranh muốn điều tra Tổng công ty Thép do nghi ngờ doanh nghiệp nhà nước này vi phạm Luật Cạnh tranh. Tuy nhiên, khi việc điều tra còn chưa bắt đầu, thì họ đã bị một lãnh đạo bộ “tuýt còi”. “Có thứ trưởng không cho điều tra… cơ chế nhà nước như vậy thì làm sao thị trường tốt được”, ông Tuyển nói tại hội thảo của Bộ Kế hoạch và Đầu tư cuối tuần trước. Ngày 9/9, tại Hà Nội, lễ ký kết thỏa thuận hợp tác công-tư (TPP) hỗ trợ phát triển thủy sản bền vững đã diễn ra với sự tham gia của các tổ chức có chung nguyện vọng đóng góp cho sự phát triển bền vững, có trách nhiệm của ngành thủy sản Việt Nam.

VNN – Chính phủ cho phép các lực lượng tuần tra, kiểm soát trong khu vực biên giới biển sử dụng công cụ hỗ trợ, vũ khí trong trường hợp đã yêu cầu phương tiện nước ngoài vi phạm dừng lại để kiểm tra mà đối tượng không chịu dừng.

Chính phủ vừa ban hành Nghị định 71/2015 về quản lý hoạt động của người, phương tiện trong khu vực biên giới biển nước CHXHCN Việt Nam.

TT – Thật vô lý khi DN có thể hạch toán thoải mái những sai lầm trong quản trị doanh nghiệp của chính mình vào giá thành rồi tính hết vào giá bán cho người tiêu dùng…

Việc các tập đoàn Than – khoáng sản, Điện lực và Dầu khí đề nghị Chính phủ cho phép họ phân bổ hàng chục ngàn tỉ đồng vào giá bán có nhiều vấn đề ẩn sâu dưới đó cần phải được nhận diện đúng mức.

Trên thế giới này không có doanh nghiệp nào có thể hạch toán thoải mái những sai lầm trong quản trị doanh nghiệp của chính mình vào giá thành rồi tính hết vào giá bán cho người tiêu dùng, ngoại trừ họ muốn phá sản vì bị các địch thủ khác cạnh tranh.
