The Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), Vietnam’s leading polytechnic university, has become the country’s first university accredited at institutional level by the ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance (AUN-QA).
The news was confirmed by Dr. Vu Dinh Thanh, rector of HCMUT, which is a member college of the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City.
AUN-QA is a higher education quality assurance network among countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, with a remit to raise the standard of higher education in collaboration with both regional and international bodies for the benefit of the ASEAN community.
HCMUT was found to have met all the criteria set forth by the quality assurance network, whose assessors visited the university between September 5 and 9, Thanh said.
The assessors were selected from a pool of ASEAN professionals based on their individual competencies and personal attributes, as well as their level of education and work experience.
The university was assessed across 25 criteria and 111 norms categorized into four groups: strategic quality assurance, systemic quality assurance, functional quality assurance and results.
The accreditation of HCMUT at institutional level makes it the first university in Vietnam, and the third in ASEAN, to receive the honor.
HCMUT is a flagship university in technology teaching and research activity in Vietnam, offering top-notch undergraduate and graduate programs in tech-industries as well as management training.
