Hãng tin Nikkei của Nhật Bản mới đây đã có một bài đánh giá tổng quan về quá trình họ gọi là “Trung Quốc hóa” tại Campuchia.

Campuchia tuyên bố giải tỏa làng nổi trên biển Hồ

TTO – Hàng nghìn hộ dân sống trên các làng nổi tại hồ Tonle Sap (biển Hồ), tỉnh Kampong Chhnang sẽ bị giải tỏa đến nơi khác trong nỗ lực mà chính quyền địa phương là để hạn chế ô nhiễm nguồn nước.

Mural painting at Da Nang airport wins bronze at Int’l Design Awards

A mural painting created by artist Nguyen Thu Thuy and her colleagues from the New Hanoi Art Company located in Da Nang International Airport won the bronze medal at the 10th International Design Awards (IDA), the awards jury announced on May 11.
Thuy also brought home a consolation prize for her ‘Love Heart for Hanoi’, a heart-shaped sculpture decorated with millions of ceramic tiles.
The mural at Da Nang airport covers a pillar that is 7.4m in height and 6.4m in diameter featuring images of flowers and tropical trees.
The work, made with paints produced by the French-based industrial paint producer Guard Industrie, was inaugurated in March this year as the first painting as part of an art project to transform Da Nang airport into a tropical garden.
The project was highly appreciated by the judges for creatively and successfully applying materials in building and industrial construction into community arts. The use of flowers and green trees helps to create a fresh and environmentally-friendly feel for viewers, thus meeting criteria set for the IDA’s Design for Society and Design for Environment category.

Weekly street art show debuts in downtown Ho Chi Minh City

A new program featuring street performances were opened on Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday evening.
The Ho Chi Minh City Street Show was debuted at 7:00 pm, amazing local residents and tourists with a variety of gigs along the pedestrian street.
The program is set to take place from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm every Saturday and Sunday night on Nguyen Hue.

Vietnam’s Cat Ba archipelago faces threats from mammoth tourism project

The construction of a megaresort has been initiated in a popular archipelago off the northern Vietnamese city of Hai Phong, mounting pressure on the local environment recognized as the world’s biosphere reserve.
The Cat Ba ecotourism resort and entertainment complex in the namesake archipelago, developed by Vietnamese conglomerate Sun Group, was kick-started on Saturday, with total investment estimated at US$3 billion.
The project began with the construction of a seaport and station of an over-the-sea cable car system, 21km long, connecting Cat Hai and Cat Ba Towns.
The third terminal of the cable car is expected to be located near the administrative center of the Cat Ba National Park on the main island.
Aside from the transportation system, the project will also include three golf courses, an amusement park, and several components to leverage the tourism potential of local areas such as Qua Vang Cave, Lan Ha Bay, Viet Hai Village, and Cat Ong Island.

Le Khac Nam, vice-chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that local authorities and Sun Group had carried out multiple surveys and pooled feedback before laying out a plan for the project.
The building of the cable car as well as other constructions will only take place in the outer areas and along the coast, Nam said, claiming that it would not affect the Cat Ba biosphere reserve, which has always been strictly protected.
The resort complex plays a very essential role in developing tourism on Cat Ba, the official elaborated.
“Upon completion, the project will surely transform Cat Ba into a world-class tourist destination,” he added.
Meanwhile, Hoang Van Thap, director of the Cat Ba National Park, affirmed that he had not been asked to give any advice on the construction.
Thap added he had not been aware that some structures would be built within the park, where many rare animal and plant species are being protected.

Developing tourism in the area requires careful consideration by competent agencies to ensure that the wildlife habitat will not be subject to any damage, Thap asserted.
Local conservationists are concerned that the Cat Ba langur species, the most endangered species in Vietnam being protected at the national park, would face multiple threats.
As of April, only 56 langurs had been recorded on Cat Ba.
According to Tran Thanh Liem, vice-chairman of the People’s Committee in Dong Bai Commune, Cat Hai District, among the 720 hectares of land needed to implement the project, 500 hectares is located in Dong Bai.
Two out of three villages in the commune have been relocated in order for the construction to take place, Liem said.

A Vietnamese-American has financially assisted the adoptive father of 12 orphans in his home country for years as a way to give back to his native country.
Le Minh Trien, 53, the owner of a thriving lawn mowing business in the U.S., was deeply moved when he first learnt of a fairy tale taking place on Cam (Forbidden) Mountain in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang.
The protagonists of the tale, Nguyen Tan Bong and his ailing septuagenarian mother, have provided for and taken care of 11 orphaned and disadvantaged children, including a preschooler with hearing and speech impairments, for over a decade now. Private firm discovered building 104 unapproved apartments in central Vietnam

The notorious Muong Thanh Group has been found building over 100 apartments that defy approved designs in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang.
The high-rise developer unilaterally adjusted the original design of a hotel and apartment complex in Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang, to add a total of 104 apartments for sale.

CENTRAL REGION — Bottom trawling is a particularly destructive method of fishing, in which huge weighted nets are dragged on the sea floor, catching everything in their path.Nguyễn Văn Việt, a fisherman from Hoài Nhơn District in the province of Bình Định, said locals here considered bottom trawlers to be ‘sea demons.’
“The setup is either one trawler or two trawlers running in tandem, dragging a huge net with very fine holes, scooping up fish of all sizes.
