Animals Asia has called on all stakeholders to make a commitment to ending bear bile farming in Vietnam by 2020.
It follows today’s announcement by Vietnam’s Traditional Medicine Association that says its members must continue to pursue alternatives to bear bile and has promised a complete end to its use by 2020.
The announcement came at a press conference in Hanoi this morning – arranged by animal welfare NGO Animals Asia and the Traditional Medicine Association.
With bear numbers dropping fast and indications that the market for bear bile is also diminishing, Animals Asia is confident that bear bile farming can be entirely ended in Vietnam by 2020. The NGO – which has worked with local authorities this year to end bear bile farming in Quang Ninh province – will be pushing authorities across Vietnam to make the same commitments ahead of 2020. Sau khi báo Lao Động số ra ngày 8.10.2014 đăng loạt phóng sự “Đi làm từ 3h sáng”, kể về thân phận những người phụ nữ ở nhiều địa phương miền Tây phải thức dậy từ khuya để đón xe lên Sài Gòn làm công nhân, nhiều bạn đọc hỏi đầy bức xúc: Vậy chồng của những phụ nữ đó làm gì trong khi vợ vắng nhà? Chúng tôi ngược về miền Tây cuối Việt. Câu hỏi “đang làm gì” hóa ra không dễ trả lời trước thực trạng “liêu xiêu” từ con người cho đến kết cấu xã hội…
Kết cấu xã hội ở miền Tây đã và đang bị phá vỡ từ những gia đình. Bây giờ ở Long An, Đồng Tháp, Bến Tre, Trà Vinh, Tây Ninh…, đến đâu chúng tôi cũng gặp những ngôi làng ban ngày chỉ toàn đàn ông bởi phụ nữ bận “đi làm xí nghiệp” để kiếm tiền, tức làm công nhân cho một công ty nào đó ở Long An, Sài Gòn, Tây Ninh… Trong lúc ngược lại các ông chồng cam chịu ở nhà đi chợ, nấu cơm, chăm lo nhà cửa… Tiếp tục đọc “Liêu xiêu nơi cuối Việt (2 kỳ)”

TN – Cuối tháng 8, quốc hội Mỹ nhận báo cáo “Chiến lược an ninh hàng hải đối với châu Á – Thái Bình Dương” do Lầu Năm Góc đệ trình để vạch rõ chiến lược hành động trong thời gian tới.

Phần đầu tiên của báo cáo đã đánh giá tổng quan tình hình khu vực cũng như các mối nguy cơ đối với an ninh hàng hải tại đây. Trong đó, vấn đề tranh chấp chủ quyền tại biển Hoa Đông và Biển Đông bị cho là ảnh hưởng mạnh mẽ đến các sự ổn định trong khu vực.

Nền đáy san hô bị tổn thương

HCM CITY (VNS) — The modernisation of Viet Nam’s railway system is projected to cost about US$5.1 billion, experts said during an event on detailed plans to upgrade the 1,726 km stretch of the North-South railway from Ha Noi to HCM City.
The plan, introduced to the public on Friday by the Viet Nam Railway Authority (VNRA), outlined major projects to be carried out until 2030. The plan aims to eliminate bottlenecks, such as the tunnels of Khe Net and Hai Van, and move the Da Nang Train Station out of the city, as well as more than 90 other infrastructure upgrades to the railway system. At a meeting in Brussels, Belgium, visiting Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh has asked Vice President of the European Commission (EC) Valdis Dombrovskis to help accelerate the signing of the EU- Vietnam free trade agreement (EVFTA).

As maritime nations, Vietnam and Japan need to enhance cooperation to maintain peace and stability at sea, Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives Tadamori Oshima told Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Tokyo on Thursday.
The leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam arrived in Japan on Tuesday for a four-day visit, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

Lawyer Ha Hai, from the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association, offered the suggestion while referring to a Thai police boat – the ship Thai Police 528 – opening fire on six Vietnamese fishing ships while they were operating in the waters off the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang on September 11.
