Viet Nam News AN GIANG — Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Trần Hồng Hà has proposed an emergency solution to avoid further devastation in the aftermath of the landslide that destroyed 14 houses last month in Mekong Delta An Giang Province.

The use of gabions, wattle screens, bamboo, wooden poles and sand packs was one of the emergency solutionsproposed to the Prime Minister after the environmental minister completed a field trip to the devastated area on April 25-26. One night, a five-year-old boy named Sheru became separated from his older brother at a train station in central India. Somehow, he ended up on a train that took him nearly 1,000 miles away to Kolkata where he knew no one, and none of the language.

Around 80 kilometers from Hanoi, Van Long Nature Reserve in Gia Van Commune, Gia Vien District, Ninh Binh Province is as beautiful as a painting.

Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI – The US Department of Commerce has begun investigating the possibility of dumping of imports of tool chests and cabinets from Việt Nam and China.

The investigation is being conducted following a petition from Waterloo Industries Inc., which filed an anti-dumping and a countervailing duty from the two countries on April 11.

Moody’s and SP affirms Việt Nam’s sovereign rating

HÀ NỘI – Two major credit rating agencies, Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s (S&P), on Friday affirmed Việt Nam’s sovereign rating, citing the country’s strong foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows, macroeconomic and external stability and modest external debt burden.

Moody’s affirmed the Government of Việt Nam’s B1 issuer and senior unsecured debt ratings, while it raised the outlook to positive from stable.

Russian missile cruiser arrives at Vietnam’s Cam Ranh Bay

The Russian Navy guided missile cruiser Varyag arrived at Cam Ranh Bay in south-central Vietnam on Thursday for a goodwill visit.

The cruiser, captained by Lieutenant Colonel Alexey Yurevich Ulyanenko and manned by a crew of 642 naval men, is being escorted by the medium-sized sea tanker Pechanga and the rescue tugboat Fotiy Krylov.

While homeschooling is still foreign to most Vietnamese parents, two brothers in Ho Chi Minh City have been undergoing the educational method for years with flying colors.

The brothers, Dang Thai Anh, 14, and Dang Nhat Anh, 19, have dropped out of formal classes after finding their school curricula too stressful and the traditional schooling environment unsuitable for their development.

China demands ‘immediate’ halt to US missile shield in South Korea

BEIJING: China called Tuesday (May 2) for the immediate suspension of a controversial missile defence system hours after Washington confirmed the shield was now operational in South Korea.

“China’s position is clear-cut and firm. We oppose the deployment of the THAAD system in (South Korea) and urge relevant sides to immediately stop the deployment. We will firmly take necessary measures to uphold our interests,” foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at a regular press briefing.
