Hiện tại ở hướng Tây Bắc và Đông Bắc Việt Nam, Trung Quốc bố trí 2 tập đoàn quân là tập đoàn quân 14 và tập đoàn quân 41. Đây sẽ là những lực lượng chính được huy động tức thời nếu Bắc Kinh quyết định phiêu lưu quân sự như năm 1979.
