HCM City – Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has signed a resolution to sustainably develop the Mekong Delta as apart of an effort to cope with climate change.
The resolution points out that the Mekong Delta accounts for 12 per cent of the national area and 19 per cent of population, contributes 50 per cent of the rice crop, 65 per cent of aquaculture, 70 per cent of fruit, 95 per cent of exported rice and 60 per cent of exported fish. Plankton decline hits marine food chain
DW_Plankton is the basis for the entire marine food web – and it is under threat. From the Mediterranean to the Pacific, animals have been struggling to survive, due apparently to changes with plankton.
Food chains represent the greatest interdependency within the webs of life. The marine food chain, for instance, is essential for oceans – and depends on plankton. But environmental changes and human activities may be threatening plankton– and therefore all marine animals.
According to a recent study,the biomass of sardines and anchovies has been decreasing at alarming rates in the Mediterranean Sea. At the same time, sea lions are struggling to forage on the coasts of California. Both cases have shed light on how a single food chain element can affect all others.
While it is still unknown whether species will be able to adapt to new conditions, the marine food chain is already experiencing drastic changes – and plankton plays a crucial role across the board.
“If anything happens to the plankton, an immediate cascade effect will take place on the food chain,” Ivan Nagelkerken, a University of Adelaide’s biology professor, told DW.

Một sáng cuối tuần, gặp lại Miên Đức Thắng ở phòng trà Sienna (Sài Gòn), tôi mới biết cũng tại đây, anh vừa dự chương trình thơ nhạc “Nụ hoa vàng ngày xuân” tưởng niệm 10 năm ngày mất của nhà thơ Kim Tuấn (1938 – 2003) do Hội nhà văn TP tổ chức. Trong buổi sinh hoạt này, Miên Đức Thắng hát bản “Cứ chảy theo thời gian” mà thú vị là bản nhạc lại do anh phổ từ một bài thơ của chính mình viết để nhớ lần tiễn nhà thơ Kim Tuấn đến lò thiêu Bình Hưng Hòa. Sài Gòn – một đêm đầu tháng 11-2017, Minh Anh đã dán xong chiếc gót giày cuối cùng trong ngày. Mẹ và những đứa em của cô đã ngủ say trong căn nhà trọ cả năm không một tia nắng lọt vào ở quận 8. Cô thả tấm lưng mỏi nhừ vì phải ngồi liên tục nhiều giờ liền xuống đệm rồi với tay cầm chiếc máy tính bảng lướt Facebook, trước khi khép lại một ngày như bao ngày. Mắt cô dừng lại ở một trang Facebook. “Bỏ hộ khẩu, chứng minh nhân dân”, cô đọc đi đọc lại. “Em mừng quá trời quá đất luôn, không làm sao tả hết”, Minh Anh kể lại. Niềm vui đẩy cơn buồn ngủ đi, kéo những giấc mơ về. Một ngày, khi chứng minh nhân dân (CMND), hộ khẩu không còn tồn tại, cô sẽ đi làm ở công ty may, đi thi bằng lái xe, mua trả góp điện thoại, đi chơi xa với bạn và sẽ cưới chồng… Năm nay Minh Anh 20 tuổi, học hết lớp 2, không hộ khẩu, không CMND, chỉ có tờ giấy khai sinh để định danh mình.
