The Hanoitimes – President Nguyen Phu Trong said that settling big corruption cases indicated the Part and State’s efforts in anti-corruption which is good for economic development.
Vietnam has continued to ramp up the fight against corruption and more progress has been made in 2019 with more high-ranking officials facing severe penalties.

Since the beginning of the year, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and State President Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed no exceptions or “forbidden zone” in corruption crackdown no matter the position which the wrongdoer holds. Trong has made this stance clear several times and the latest was at a meeting by the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption in January. 37 foreigners suffer alleged food poisoning in tourism hotspot

Authorities in central Nha Trang Town are investigating the hospitalization of 37 foreigners showing symptoms of food poisoning.
The group of tourists ate a buffet breakfast at Diamond Bay Condotel Resort in Nha Trang of Khanh Hoa Province on Tuesday that contained 30 dishes and served around 600 customers, including Vietnamese, Russians and Chinese.
Several hours later, many began suffering stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea and were sent to the emergency room at a local hospital, said Le Tan Hung, deputy director of the provincial health department.

Indonesia rejects China’s claims over South China Sea

JAKARTA (Reuters) – Indonesia said on Wednesday it rejected China’s claims over a disputed part of the South China Sea as “having no legal basis”, after two days earlier protesting to Beijing over the presence of a Chinese coastguard vessel in its territorial waters.

The boat trespassed into Indonesia’s exclusive economic zone off the coast of the northern islands of Natuna, leading Indonesians officials to issue a “strong protest” and summon the Chinese ambassador in Jakarta.
