The floodgates of the largest and most controversial dam project in the country’s history officially closed yesterday at an inauguration ceremony presided over by Prime Minister Hun Sen, who took aim at environmentalists, ambassadors and NGOs in a wide-ranging speech.

During his one-hour address, the prime minister said the Lower Sesan II Dam, near the border with Laos in Stung Treng province, would lower electricity costs and put the Kingdom on its way to hooking up every village in the country to the electricity grid by 2022. (TBKTSG) – Bà đi khám bệnh một mình. Bà bị bệnh nặng nhưng không chịu nhập viện. Bác sĩ gọi cho người con, người con không vô được vì có cuộc họp quan trọng. Sau khi biết mẹ mình phải nhập viện, người con hỏi xem có người nuôi bệnh thuê không. Bác sĩ trách người con vô tâm.

Liệu có đúng không khi bác sĩ trách người con đó? Tại sao một người già đi khám bệnh lại phải có con cháu đi theo? Tại sao ngành y không làm được công việc chăm sóc bệnh nhân khi họ nằm viện, thay cho những người con kia?

The roles of community seed banks in climate change adaption

Abstract

Although community level seed-saving initiatives have been around for about 30 years, until recently they have received little attention in the scientific literature on climate change adaptation and plant genetic resources. Based on research experiences from various countries, this article argues that community seed banks can enhance the resilience of farmers, in particular of communities and households most affected by climate change. Community seed banks can secure improved access to, and availability of, diverse, locally adapted crops and varieties, and enhance related indigenous knowledge and skills in plant management, including seed selection, treatment, storage, multiplication, and distribution.
