The HCMC-Moc Bai expressway, spanning 51 km, is expected to relieve traffic burden on national highway 22 and increase connectivity to Cambodia once completed.
The HCMC-Moc Bai expressway, approved by the prime minister to be done by 2027, would span 51 km and connect HCMC’s Cu Chi District and Tay Ninh’s Ben Cau District.
Vehicles running from HCMC to Tay Ninh that borders Cambodia now often use the national highway 22, which is frequently congested.
During the first phase, the expressway would have four normal lanes and two emergency lanes. Following land clearance, it would be expanded to six normal lanes. The projects costs over VND19.6 trillion ($787.94 million).
There will be five major intersections along the expressway, connecting with Ring Road 3, provincial road 15, provincial road 8, DT.787B, national highway 22B and national highway 22.
The intersection connecting with Ring Road 3 and provincial road 15 in HCMC’s Cu Chi District is the largest, including overpasses and tunnels that allow vehicles to take different paths.
There will be a railway running through the Moc Bai-Ring Road 3 and provincial road 15 intersections.
At the intersection between the expressway and provincial road 8, there will be branches built.
At the intersection with DT.787B, there will be branches that allow cars to get on and get off the expressway.
The DT.787B intersection will help vehicles travel to the Hung Thuan inland container depot and major industrial zones in Tay Ninh.

There will be additional roads running through residential areas built along the expressway.
The Go Dau bridge, with four normal lanes and two emergency ones, will cross the Vam Co Dong River and connect Go Dau town with the Moc Bai border gate.

State capital will take up 49% of the project’s investment costs, with the rest coming from investors. Businesses expect returns after 14 years and 10 months, before handing the project back to authorities.

Around 1,800 families and organizations in HCMC’s Cu Chi District will be affected by the project. Land clearance compensation is expected to cost over VND7.1 trillion, an increase of VND1.832 trillion from initial calculations. Another VND1.5 trillion in compensation is expected to be needed for land clearance in Tay Ninh.
