New York Times ngày 21/6/2016 có đưa tin về vụ thượng tướng Phạm Trường Long, Phó Chủ tịch Quân uỷ Trung ương Trung Quốc bỏ ngang cuộc Giao lưu hữu nghị Quốc phòng biên giới Việt – Trung lần thứ 4 và về nước. Bộ QP TQ nói đó là vì “lý do liên quan đến việc sắp xếp làm việc”. Nguồn tin từ phía Việt Nam (nặc danh) là hai bên cãi nhau trong cuộc họp kín về “những vùng tranh chấp về chủ quyền” ở Biển Đông.
Tướng Phạm thăm VN chính thức 2 ngày 18 và 19 tháng 6, 2017. Theo lịch đã sắp, thì ngày 20 đến 22/6 sẽ dùng cho Giao lưu hữu nghị Quốc phòng. Báo VN chẳng nói gì về chuyện tướng Phạm bỏ về. Một số báo Việt có tường thuật tướng Phạm gặp các lãnh đạo VN trong ngày 18/6. Nhưng tướng Phạm bỏ về cuối ngày 18, sau đó các bài báo đều được gỡ bỏ. Vietnamese police have initiated criminal proceedings against five people responsible for sending a well-invested state-run enterprise into steep losses, officers announced on Tuesday.
Four of the accused have been arrested on charges of “intentionally acting against state economic management regulations and causing serious consequences,” while one remains at large after fleeing the country in November 2016. Ducks, fish die en masse in central Vietnamese village

Countless farm-raised ducks and fish from a village in the central Vietnamese province of Quang Nam have been found dead overnight, with the cause yet to be concluded.
The deaths were discovered on Tuesday morning in a section of a stream in An Chanh Village, Dai Tan Commune, Dai Loc District.
After finding out about the mass deaths, local residents gathered at the People’s Committee headquarters in Dai Tan to report the situation.

Vietnam’s environment protection chief dismissed over Formosa disaster

A chief of environmental protection operations under Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has been dismissed for his management oversight that had led to the Formosa disaster last year.
Luong Duy Hanh, director of the Department of Control of Environmental Protection Activities, has been removed from his position, a source close to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper said, quoting the decision of the Vietnam Environment Administration.
Results from the Central Inspection Committee showed that Hanh, during his time in office, failed to correctly monitor the activities of the Vietnamese steel subsidiary of Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics Group in the north-central province of Ha Tinh. Vietnam’s coal giant cries for help as unsold stock nears 10mn tons

Vietnam’s biggest coal and mineral enterprise has called on the government to offer preferential treatment to clear its massive unsold inventory, but was told to find thorough solutions to its own problems instead of crying for help.
State-run Vinacomin currently has 9.3 million metric tons of coal in unsold stock, and the problem will worsen as one of its biggest buyers, Vietnam Electricity (EVN), has plans to cut its order by two million tons this year.

Fresh submarine cable problem disrupts Internet connection in Vietnam

Internet speed in Vietnam has come to a snail’s pace for some users as one of the major undersea cable systems is suffering connection disruption, a service provider confirmed on Wednesday.
Connection was disrupted in the section of the Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) connecting the central city of Da Nang with the U.S., Japan and Hong Kong, at around 4:00 pm on Tuesday, a VNPT representative told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

HÀ NỘI — A database of energy efficiency in 280 large buildings in Việt Nam’s five biggest cities has been compiled and analysed under a four-year programme by the Ministry of Construction and the United States Agency for International Development.
The first ever National Building Energy Performance Database includes the cities of Hà Nội, HCM City, Đà Nẵng, Hải Phòng and Cần Thơ. The US-funded project, presented yesterday in Hà Nội, aimed to identify energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions of buildings in Việt Nam with a view to reducing emissions in the future, said Vũ Thị Kim Thoa of the USAID Việt Nam Clean Energy Programme.
