It was Friday, the Islamic day of assembly, but outside Kashgar’s Id Kah mosque on Liberation Avenue it was the growl of diesel engines that filled the air not a muezzin’s wistful cry.

US defense contractor accused of spying for China

WASHINGTON: A US defense contractor and former State Department security officer was arrested by American counterintelligence officials on Thursday (Jun 22) and charged with spying for China.

The Justice Department said Kevin Mallory of Leesburg, Virginia had sold classified documents to Chinese intelligence agents on trips to Shanghai in March and April.

A South Korean court sentenced Choi Soon-sil, a longtime friend of ousted President Park Guen-hye, to three years in prison for bribery in the first of a string of criminal cases against her.

China to introduce national standard for English translations in attempt to rid country of Chinglish

Tired of getting laughed at by visitors for its hilariously bad English translations, China is planning to institute a set of fun-killing national guidelines aimed at wiping out the scourge of Chinglish once and for all.

This new English translation standard will go into effect on December 1st, 2017 — a dark day in the 5,000 years of Chinese history — in order to improve the quality of English translations in 13 different public arenas like transportation, entertainment and medicine. Additionally, it will provide a list of standardized translations for some 3,500 commonly used phrases and terms.

A. Cách mạng năng lượng

Thế giới, vốn quen với nguồn dầu mỏ dồi dào và giá rẻ, chỉ bừng tỉnh sau cơn khủng hoảng dầu mỏ đầu tiên vào năm 1973. Trong suốt nhiều thập niên, các công ty công nghiệp nhiệt, im lặng trước sự lạm dụng quá mức năng lượng hóa thạch đầy carbon, đã đi vào con đường hủy diệt hệ sinh thái ở mức độ toàn cầu.

Hệ thống năng lượng khắp mọi nơi hiện nay, vẫn còn dựa trên các nguồn năng lượng lưu trữ (than, dầu mỏ, khí, uranium), đang chuyển biến mạnh mẽ.

Trên đường hướng đến một nền kinh tế xanh và số hóa, thế giới đang tiến sâu vào một cuộc cách mạng năng lượng. Ta chứng kiến những đột phá và thay đổi lớn lao. Công nghệ số và Internet cũng đóng một vai trò quan trọng trong lĩnh vực năng lượng. Các nguồn thông lượng (thủy điện, mặt trời, gió, sinh khối, năng lượng biển…), miễn phí và có mặt trên toàn cầu, sẽ chiếm lĩnh thị trường. Không nên quên rằng năng lượng mặt trời có thể cung cấp ít nhất là 20 lần tổng lượng điện tiêu thụ hiện nay của thế giới. Ngày 23/6/2017, trong hội thảo “Nơi dòng sông chảy ngược: Nước, giới và phát triển” tổng kết dự án “Đánh giá tác động giới từ các công trình thủy điện trên sông Srepok” do Oxfam tài trợ, tổ chức tại TP Buôn Ma Thuột, Trung tâm Nghiên cứu và Phát triển xã hội (CSRD) trao giải Ảnh đẹp cho nhiều tác giả nông dân đã được dự án tặng máy ảnh, hướng dẫn cách chụp để tự kể về câu chuyện của cộng đồng qua ảnh, góp hơn 100 ảnh để triển lãm, in sách.

Cả hai vẫn yêu gia đình của mình, nhưng cũng muốn giữ liên hệ với nhau, nên hẹn nhau năm tới cùng ngày này sẽ gặp lại nhau nơi này. Students seek luck before exam at Temple of Literature

Students often visit Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam, or Temple of Literature, in the days running up to their annual exams to pray for luck.

Many students are flocking to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university, before their high school graduation exams which are scheduled to take place from June 22 to 24.

The temple, the main Confucian school in feudal times, was built in 1070 in the time of Emperor Ly Nhan Tong. It includes various pavilions, halls, statues and steles and is still venerated as place of respect. Modern students still indulge in this tradition.
