The Vietnamese People’s Air Force currently maintains a fleet of ten Su-27 Flanker combat aircraft, complemented by 35 Su-30s and 34 Su-22s. In a surprising twist, there’s speculation of a possible addition of American aircraft to Vietnam’s arsenal soon.

The first indication of this evolution came in 2021, as Vietnam placed an order for at least three T-6 Texan II trainers from American manufacturer Beechcraft. The delivery of these aircraft is still pending. This apparent shift is concurrent with the thawing of relations between Vietnam and the United States, a development largely driven by shared concerns regarding China. HANOI, Dec 8 (Reuters) – U.S. and Russian defence firms on Thursday displayed weapons and promoted models of aircraft at Vietnam’s first large-scale arms fair, as the two powers vie for influence and arms sales in the strategic Southeast Asian country that borders China.

The event at a Hanoi airbase attracted 174 exhibitors from 30 countries, including all large arms-making nations except China.

 I noticed Mac Shin with y curiosity because he was Chinese, and one of the two intelligence agents who arrived at the Tan Trao war zone even before the “Deer Team”. In every story, at every moment, Mac Shin always spoke of President Ho Chi Minh with respect. He called the late President with a beloved name – Uncle Ho. On May 10, 2008, in Seattle, Vietnamese Deputy Ambassador to the US Nguyen Tien Minh came and presented the medal “For Peace, Friendship among Nations” to him. But who is Mac Shin? Not many people in Vietnam or the US know his name as well as his relationship with President Ho Chi Minh.

HANOI: With repeated Chinese intrusions into oil-rich Vanguard Bank and anticipated departure of ExxonMobil from the Blue Whale project, the South China Sea dispute has reached a turning point. A planned meeting between presidents Donald Trump and Nguyễn Phú Trọng could be pivotal for a strategic partnership, but is unlikely to happen any time soon.

During the Trump-Kim summit in Hanoi in February, Trump invited Trọng to visit Washington with discussions expected on the South China Sea, the US-Vietnam strategic partnership and the Blue Whale project. Trọng postponed visits in July and October for unspecified concerns over health or Chinese reactions, and uncertainty lingers as Trump contends with impeachment by a polarized Congress. Les Etats-Unis fourniront un navire au Vietnam pour "renforcer sa présence" en mer de Chine méridionale

 Les États-Unis fourniront au Vietnam un autre navire pour renforcer sa capacité de patrouiller dans ses eaux territoriales, a annoncé mercredi le secrétaire d’Etat américain à la Défense, Mark Esper, en visite de travail dans le pays de l’Asie du Sud-Est.

 

Cette déclaration d’Esper intervient dans un contexte marqué par des tensions grandissantes entre Hanoï et Pékin sur fond de leur différend territorial en mer de l’Est (mer de Chine méridionale).
Le navire sera le deuxième à être fourni par les garde-côtes américains au Vietnam. Il y a deux ans, un premier navire de classe Hamilton a été remis garde-côtes vietnamiens pour permettre à Hanoï d’affirmer sa souveraineté sur ses eaux territoriales convoitées par la Chine.

Vietnam is a country bursting with youthful energy. The nearly 100 million Vietnamese have an average age of just 31, and despite living under single-party communist rule, they have a thriving capitalist economy that may hit 10% growth this year. And, of great importance to the U.S. and its allies, Vietnam is strategically positioned along the western side of the South China Sea, and has a series of maritime disputes with its neighbors, especially China.

HÀ NỘI — An area measuring 37ha at Biên Hòa airbase was handed over to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for a dioxin clean-up project at Biên Hòa Airport in Đồng Nai Province, the most contaminated spot in the country.

The US Navy is planning two major visits to Vietnam this year as part of efforts to strengthen maritime relations between the two armies.

The US “would welcome the opportunity for another aircraft carrier visit to Vietnam this year,” saying that the move shows the mutual respect that each nation has for each other and the depth of the two countries’ growing partnership, Commander of US Indo-Pacific Command Admiral Philip Davidson said at a press meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on April 18, VnExpress reported. Đô đốc Philip S. Davidson, Chỉ huy Bộ tư lệnh Thái Bình Dương – Ấn Độ Dương của Mỹ, hôm 12/2 đã tiết lộ tại Quốc hội Mỹ về chuyện Việt Nam mua máy bay trinh sát không người lái cũng như máy bay huấn luyện từ Hoa Kỳ.
