HÀ NỘI – The Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption convened a meeting in Hà Nội yesterday chaired by Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng, head of the committee.

Members discussed the progress, results, difficulties and obstacles regarding the investigation, prosecution and trial of cases under the supervision of the committee.

They agreed to complete the investigation, prosecution and trial of 12 cases under the supervision of the committee in 2017, including those involving Saigon Thương Tín Commercial Joint Stock Bank, Tiên Phong Bank, Bank for Investment and Development of Việt Nam and the State Bank of Việt Nam. Villagers hold police officers captive outside Hanoi

Hanoi administrators are calling on residents of a village outside the Vietnamese capital to remain calm and cooperate with authorities, after they took more than two dozen law enforcement officers hostage during a protest on Saturday.

On Sunday afternoon, the propaganda and education commission under the Hanoi Party Committee released an official statement on the disturbance in Dong Tam Commune in My Duc District, 30km from the centre of the city.

According to the document, residents with limited legal knowledge had obstructed on-duty police officers and held them captive over weekend.

VCCI, in its 2016 PCI report, pointed out that there are still many ‘big stones’ that block enterprises’ way, including lack of transparency, difficulties to access land, unfair environment and under-the-table fees.

State management agencies have established ‘one-stop-shop’ units to ease administrative procedures that people and businesses have to follow. However, the units still cannot help. Hôm nay, ngày 27/3/2017, Tòa án nhân dân tỉnh Đắk Nông tiếp tục xét xử  vụ án “Lợi dụng ảnh hưởng người khác để trục lợi. Đưa và nhận hối lộ” gồm 3 nhóm tội, 8 bị cáo sinh sống trên địa bàn hai tỉnh Đắk Lắk và Đắk Nông. Dù đã kéo dài tới ngày thứ tư, gấp đôi thời gian dự kiến ban đầu, không khí tranh luận vẫn nóng bỏng.

SAO PAULO – Brazil’s meat exports effectively collapsed this week, the agricultural minister said Wednesday, as several countries halted imports from the South American country in the wake of a meat inspection scandal.

Brazil is struggling to contain the scandal, in which investigators say that health inspectors were bribed to overlook expired meats and chemicals and that other products were added to meat to improve its appearance and smell. The government has largely tried to downplay the extent of the corruption, while also criticizing the federal police for how they have communicated about it.   Đêm qua, 22.3, ông Đoàn Ngọc Hải, Phó chủ tịch quận 1 đã dừng chân trước rạp Công Nhân (Nhà hát kịch thành phố) nằm trên đường Trần Hưng Đạo (thuộc phường Nguyễn Cư Trinh), ra lệnh phá dỡ toàn bộ 5 bậc thềm có chiều ngang hơn 20 mét vì lấn chiếm vỉa hè. Ít ai biết rạp hát có tuổi đời gần 1 thế kỷ này từng là tài sản của một vị đại gia lẫy lừng Sài Gòn.

Ông Lê Quan Ba, một nhân viên kỳ cựu của Nhà hát kịch thành phố nói trong tiếng ồn của máy khoan: “Tôi năm nay đã được 83 tuổi thì 5 bậc thềm lên xuống rạp này đã có khoảng 80 năm”. Ông Ba cho biết khi nghe tin lực lượng chức năng tháo dỡ bậc thềm, ông chạy từ trên lầu nhà hát xuống để nhìn nó lần cuối, vì bậc thềm này gắn bó nhiều kỷ niệm với ông từ khi còn nhỏ. Báo Tiền Phong đã nhận công văn 327 “V/v làm rõ một số nội dung trong các bài viết của báo Tiền Phong” do ông Doãn Hữu Long giám đốc Sở Y tế Đắk Lắk (SYT) ký ngày 22/2/2017. Theo CV 327, thì cùng ngày 22/2  SYT còn có CV 321 “trả lời các nội dung nêu trong bài”, còn CV này chỉ “làm rõ hơn các nội dung đã nêu”. Tuy nhiên, SYT không gửi CV 321 cho báo Tiền Phong.

Image of publication coverIn the most extensive survey of its kind, we spoke to 21,861 people in 16 countries, regions and territories across the Asia Pacific region between July 2015 and January 2017 about their perceptions and experiences of corruption. The survey results show a great diversity in the corruption risks across the region, but in every country surveyed there is scope for improved approaches to corruption prevention.
