Serious subsidence has caused a major route leading to the east entrance of Ho Chi Minh City to become ‘wavy,’ endangering vehicles traveling on the road.

A section of Hanoi Highway, which connects District 9 in Ho Chi Minh City with neighboring provinces to the east of the city, has had its surface heavily distorted by severe subsidence.

As a large amount of traffic flows on the highway on a daily basis, its surface has become wave-like, with the gaps measuring about 10 to 20 centimeters deep, causing immense challenges for vehicles.

A market for street vendors has been put into operation for over one year at Pham Van Hai Market in HCMC’s Tan Binh District.

Some 20 households have been approved by local authorities to run business at the market at night time, which helps reduce encroachment on public pavements by street vendors.

It is expected that more spaces will be set up at other districts in HCMC to help street vendors run business.

All 11 lottery ticket companies in southern Vietnam have collectively channeled nearly VND1,000 billion (US$44.64 million) into sectors outside their main business, the Ministry of Finance’s inspectorate announced.

By the end of 2015, these 11 companies had earmarked more than VND1,078 billion ($48.13 million) for long-term financial investment, though only over VND80.8 billion ($3.61 million) was meant for their core business operations, the finance inspectors said.

The combined non-core investment of these companies amounts to VND997 billion ($44.51 million), according to the inspectors tasked with examining the 2015 consolidated financial reports from the lottery firms. AirAsia signed a shareholders’ agreement with Việt Nam’s Gumin Company Limited, Hải Âu Aviation Joint Stock Company and Trần Trọng Kiên, the owner of these two companies, to form the venture last Friday, which the airline announced in a statement to Malaysia’s stock exchange. Vietnam’s economy grew at its slowest pace in three years in the first quarter, government data showed on Wednesday, as production was weak in agriculture, mining and manufacturing.

The General Statistics Office (GSO) said annual growth in January-March was 5.1 percent. That was the slowest expansion for any quarter since the first three months of 2014.

Sản xuất xứng đáng nhận được sự chú ý. Sản xuất tạo ra phần lớn doanh thu xuất khẩu ở các nước giàu và có lịch sử phát triển nhanh về năng suất. Mặc dù vậy, sản xuất chỉ tạo ra khoảng 10-15% việc làm ở các nước đang phát triển (và thậm chí ít hơn ở Hoa Kỳ và một vài nước phát triển nhất thế giới), và sản xuất cũng không còn đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc tạo ra giá trị thặng dư và việc làm (Dadush, 2015). Nói cách khác, sản xuất là ngành nhỏ và tương đối chậm phát triển, trong khi cạnh tranh quốc tế rất khốc liệt. Bởi vì xuất khẩu sản xuất phụ thuộc nhiều vào linh kiện nhập khẩu, tính trong giá trị gia tăng, nên sản xuất đóng góp ít hơn trong nguồn thu ngoại tệ, không nhiều như mọi người thường nghĩ. Không chỉ ở các nước phát triển mà cả ở các nước đang phát triển, thu nhập ngoại tệ ròng phần lớn không có liên quan đến sản xuất. Bởi vì sản xuất tạo ra doanh thu thấp và ngày càng đi xuống và nhất là từ khi sản xuất đặc biệt thiên về tự động hóa, giá trị thặng dư dài hạn và xu thế việc làm đang trở nên tương đương với nông nghiệp dù ít nghiêm trọng hơn.

The 550-kilometre highway will traverse the northern port city of Hải Phòng, Quảng Ninh, Thái Bình, Nam Định, Ninh Bình and Thanh Hóa provinces.

Minister of Planning and Investment, Nguyễn Chí Dũng, said that without such a route, the six cities won’t be able to connect, wasting potential development opportunities.

Dũng said the ministry had received investment plans from all six provinces, but each differs on the scale, direction, mechanism and resources for the route. Vietnam earlier this year received an ‘expected gift’ from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). The auditing firm, one of the ‘big four’, reported that Vietnam economy ranked 32nd in the world in 2016 with GDP of $595 billion, including PPP (purchasing power parity) formula.

With the predicted average growth rate of 5.1 percent in 2016-2050, PwC believes that Vietnam would be the 20th largest economy in the world by 2050 with GDP of $3.176 trillion (in PPP), higher than that of Thailand, Malaysia, Canada and Australia. Yvonne van Amerongen is Head of Quality and Innovation at Hogewey, and one of the founders of its internationally award-winning small-scale living model of care.

Yvonne has been working at Vivium Zorggroep since 1983, in particular at nursing home Hogewey. In 1990, she developed a new product which revolutionised care for people developing dementia in the vicinity of the Hogewey nursing home. In 1993, Yvonne became a fulltime project manager for the development of the care project small-scale living with lifestyle for the psycho-geriatrics target group.This project was also the subject matter of her graduation thesis for the Higher Vocational Training in Social Pedagogic Care with a specialisation in Management.
