Seasonal pumped hydropower storage (SPHS), an already established yet infrequently used technology, could be an affordable and sustainable solution to store energy and water on an annual scale, according to new IIASA research published in the journal Nature Communications. Compared with other mature storage solutions, such as natural gas, the study shows that there is considerable potential for SPHS to provide highly competitive energy storage costs.

An oft-repeated refrain—the sun doesn’t always shine, and the wind doesn’t always blow—is sometimes seen as an impediment to renewable energy. But it’s also an impetus toward discovering the best ways to store that energy until it’s needed.

Declining costs in available technologies have propelled interest in energy storage forward like never before. The price of lithium-ion batteries has fallen by about 80% over the past five years, enabling the integration of storage into solar power systems. Today, nearly 18% of all electricity produced in the United States comes from renewable energy sources, such as hydropower and wind—a figure that is forecast to climb. And as communities and entire states push toward higher percentages of power from renewables, there’s no doubt storage will play an important role.

Compared with the same period a year earlier, the United States saw a 93% increase in the amount of storage deployed in the third quarter of 2019. By 2024, that number is expected to top 5.4 gigawatts, according to a forecast by market research firm Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables. The market value is forecast to increase from $720 million today to $5.1 billion in 2024. Driving such growth is an increased focus on adding renewable energy sources to the nation’s grid. Giải quyết bài toán thiếu điện trong thời gian tới, vừa qua, Tập đoàn điện lực Việt Nam (EVN) đã đề xuất Chính phủ sớm phê duyệt chủ trương nhập khẩu điện các nguồn điện tại Lào và Trung Quốc đã được EVN trình trong năm 2018.

Theo tính toán của Tập đoàn điện lực Việt Nam (EVN), trong giai đoạn từ nay đến năm 2030, nhu cầu sử dụng điện sẽ tiếp tục tăng ở mức cao. Ngành điện cần phải đảm bảo sản xuất 265-278 tỷ kWh vào năm 2020 và khoảng 572-632 tỷ kWh vào năm 2030. EVN cho rằng, để đáp ứng nhu cầu sử dụng điện cho phát triển kinh tế – xã hội trong giai đoạn vừa qua, ngoài việc hoàn thành đưa vào vận hành các nhà máy điện thì còn có phương án phải nhập khẩu điện từ các nước trong khu vực trong đó có Lào và Trung Quốc.

Năm 2016, châu Âu kỷ niệm 20 năm lần đầu tiên tự do hóa thị trường điện. Chúng ta có thể rút ra kết luận gì từ hai thập kỷ tự do hóa này? Một số nhà quan sát, kể cả những người danh tiếng, [1] cho rằng thử nghiệm này là một thất bại. Thường xuyên, các hội nghị được tổ chức tại Brussels hoặc các thủ đô khác nhau để thảo luận các cải cách mới được coi là cần thiết để cứu ngành điện châu Âu. Ủy ban châu Âu đề xuất những thay đổi sau khi tư vấn cho các bên tham gia thị trường. [2]

Bài viết này đứng ở một khía cạnh lạc quan hơn: tự do hóa của ngành điện châu Âu đã hoàn thành hầu hết các mục tiêu ban đầu. Phải thừa nhận rằng, cải thiện có thể và nên được thực hiện, nhưng chúng ta đã đi một chặng đường dài. Vậy nên, ly nước đầy một nửa. Vietnam’s plan to pilot a direct power purchase agreement for renewable energy in 2019 has drawn keen interest from investors.

On June 12 this year, at a seminar on renewable energy, the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (ERAV) discussed and disclosed information about such a pilot DPPA.

Generally, a DPPA is an agreement between a power generator and a corporate customer in which power is physically delivered and sold to the customer for its operation.

The power grid as we know it began with isolated power generation systems across the world starting in the 1870s. The growth and unification of the systems into an interconnected AC power ‘grid’ helped raise the quality of life of people from all classes.

Direct Current Beginnings:

DC power systems dominated in the 1870’s and 1880s. “Small” systems were sold to factories around the world, both in urban areas, and remote undeveloped areas for industrial/mining use. Thomas Edison, Charles Brush, and Werner von Siemenslead the industry in DC systems. DC systems powered factories and small downtown areas but did not reach 95% of residents. Electric lighting was a luxury found only in hotels and other businesses as well as in the mansions of people like George Westinghouse and J.P. Morgan. Công trình cần được Thiết kế – Xây dựng – Vận hành như thế nào để đảm bảo tối ưu hóa tiện nghi cho người sử dụng trong khi vẫn hiệu quả về sử dụng tài nguyên (năng lượng, nước, vật liệu….) và giảm tác động đến môi trường? Điều này đòi hỏi sự tham gia của tất cả các bên ngay từ giai đoạn ban đầu trong quá trình hình thành đến khi kết thúc các dự án xây dựng.

Bộ Quy chuẩn Kỹ thuật Quốc gia về Công trình Hiệu quả năng lượng (QCVN 09:2017/BXD) do Bộ Xây dựng  ban hành năm 2018 là phiên bản cập nhật của QCVN 09:2013/BXD do thực trạng áp dụng những năm vừa qua còn ở mức rất thấp. Song song cập nhật, điều chỉnh trong hành lang pháp lý từ phía cơ quan nhà nước, mỗi dự án xây dựng cần có sự tham gia từ tất cả các bên tham gia (đơn vị đầu tư, nhà thầu, tư vấn, thi công xây dựng, vận hành….) ngay từ khâu hoạch địch mục tiêu bền vững cho đến khi thiết kế, vận hành và kết thúc vòng đời công trình để đạt được tiêu chí bền vững, hiệu quả năng lượng và tài nguyên. A London-based bank has been accused of breaching its climate pledges over the financing of a heavily polluting coal-fired power plant in Vietnam.

Standard Chartered, a UK bank which supports British companies trading abroad, plans to co-finance the $2.5bn (£1.81bn) Nghi Son 2 coal plant in Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam.
