I am an attorney in the Washington DC area, with a Doctor of Law in the US, attended the master program at the National School of Administration of Việt Nam, and graduated from Sài Gòn University Law School. I aso studied philosophy at the School of Letters in Sài Gòn. . I have worked as an anti-trust attorney for Federal Trade Commission and a litigator for a fortune-100 telecom company in Washington DC. I have taught law courses for legal professionals in Việt Nam and still counsel VN government agencies on legal matters. I have founded and managed businesses for me and my family, both law and non-law. I have published many articles on national newspapers and radio stations in Việt Nam. In 1989 I was one of the founding members of US-VN Trade Council, working to re-establish US-VN relationship. Since the early 90's, I have established and managed VNFORUM and VNBIZ forum on VN-related matters; these forums are the subject of a PhD thesis by Dr. Caroline Valverde at UC-Berkeley and her book Transnationalizing Viet Nam. I translate poetry and my translation of "A Request at Đồng Lộc Cemetery" is now engraved on a stone memorial at Đồng Lộc National Shrine in VN. I study and teach the Bible and Buddhism. In 2009 I founded and still manage dotchuoinon.com on positive thinking and two other blogs on Buddhism. In 2015 a group of friends and I founded website CVD - Conversations on Vietnam Development (cvdvn.net). I study the art of leadership with many friends who are religious, business and government leaders from many countries. I have written these books, published by Phu Nu Publishing House in Hanoi: "Positive Thinking to Change Your Life", in Vietnamese (TƯ DUY TÍCH CỰC Thay Đổi Cuộc Sống) (Oct. 2011) "10 Core Values for Success" (10 Giá trị cốt lõi của thành công) (Dec. 2013) "Live a Life Worth Living" (Sống Một Cuộc Đời Đáng Sống) (Oct. 2023) I practice Jiu Jitsu and Tai Chi for health, and play guitar as a hobby, usually accompanying my wife Trần Lê Túy Phượng, aka singer Linh Phượng.

VietNamNet Bridge – Sorting waste at the source and recycling are two of the solutions being implemented in HCMC to control issues posed by garbage dumping.

A report shows that the city produces 7,500 tons of waste, while the figure is expected to increase to 10,000-12,000 tons by 2020.

Hazardous solid waste is around 150,000 tons per year, including 6,300 tons of hazardous healthcare waste per year.

Dear readers,

This issue, dated July 2016, actually got to you in early June 2017, almost a year late and 4 and a half months into the reign of King Trump whom we dub in Vietnamese “Chí Phèo”.

Never before has someone wreak such havoc on his country and on the world in such a short time after taking office. We hope he would not last as long as the Khmer Rouge in the not so distant past. He just came back from his first trip overseas as President, lifting despotic regimes in the Middle East, antagonizing virtually every European allies and pulling the U.S. out of the Paris Accord on climate, thus joining Syria and Nicaragua to face the rest of the world.

Bạn đã bao giờ nghe tới hẻm “lười”, hẻm “celeb”, hẻm thiền, hẻm… thâu đêm ở Sài Gòn chưa? Đây là những con hẻm độc đáo nhất Sài Gòn mà nhiều người còn chưa biết đấy!

Khi ở ngoài mặt phố đâu đâu cũng ngập tràn các cửa hàng to hoành tráng, những quán nước, nhà hàng hay địa điểm mua sắm,… nằm phơi phơi, rất dễ bị nhiều người nhìn thấy thì việc tự mình đi khám phá loanh quanh trong một con hẻm nhỏ với nhiều địa điểm lạ, mà còn ít người biết sẽ vô cùng thú vị.

Ở Sài Gòn có rất nhiều con hẻm ngoằn ngoèo, quanh co nhưng rất “độc”, ví dụ như hẻm “lười” – nơi tổ hợp các thể loại nhà hàng, quán nước, cửa hàng thời trang,… Hay một con hẻm nhỏ xíu, nhưng đó lại là thế giới ẩm thực của một quốc gia khác nằm trong lòng Sài Gòn, rồi có con hẻm lại là nơi tập trung của hầu hết các bạn trẻ vui chơi thâu đêm suốt sáng,… Quả thật rất đáng để khám phá thử đúng không? VietNamNet Bridge – Brewers and pubs are thriving thanks to Vietnamese wine and beer consumption.

Hong Binh, 35, an office worker in district 3, HCMC, said he drinks beer with his friends at least once a week, sometimes at Bo Ke, a popular restaurant, and sometimes at a restaurant on Nguyen Van Cu street in district 5.

“This is our hobby. We can enjoy them time when drinking beer,” he said, adding that he and his friends help the owners of the beer clubs get rich.

According to Euromonitor, the increase of the middle-class income earners and young people has increased demand for wine and beer by 300 percent since 2002, while the market value was estimated at VND147.2 trillion in 2016.

Sabeco, the brewer with the largest market share, has capitalization value of $3.15 billion, becoming the enterprise with the fifth largest capitalization value on the HCMC bourse, just after Vinamilk, the nation’s dairy producer, PV Gas, Vietcombank and VinGroup. VietNamNet Bridge – Economists have said that the increased trade deficit with South Korea is not expected to lead to changes in Vietnam’s economic structure.

China remains Vietnam’s biggest supplier of goods, but South Korea has the highest growth rate of exports to Vietnam. In the first six months of the year, Vietnam imported $22.5 billion worth of products from South Korea, an increase of 51.2 percent over the same period last year.

The community-based education centre of Ha Giang city, the northernmost province of Ha Giang, made debut on August 8, becoming the first of its kind in Vietnam.

The Forest Ranger Sub-department of southern Dong Nai province has completed a project to protect the black-shanked douc langurs found recently on Chua Chan mountain, in Xuan Loc district.

A family of black shanked douc langurs lives in Nui Chua National Park

The project, which will be submitted to the People’s Committee for approval, aims to create a favourable habitat and feeding area for the langurs, scientifically known as Pygathrix nigripes, an endangered species to help them grow in number.

Functional agencies will minimize human presence in the langur-inhabited area of around 24 hectares and take measures to prevent illegal hunting as well as communicate to help the community understanding the mission of protecting wild animals. WASHINGTON, D.C. — Venezuela’s score on Gallup’s Law and Order Index — its annual global gauge of how secure people feel — continued to follow the country’s descent into chaos in 2016. The country’s index score of 42 out of 100 was the lowest in the world last year. This number is likely even worse now as the country’s economic and political crisis deepens, including the election on Sunday that critics, including the U.S. and a growing list of nations, are denouncing as a “sham.”

Across 135 countries, Law and Order Index scores in 2016 ranged from a high of 97 in Singapore to the low of 42 in Venezuela. The index is based on people’s reported confidence in their local police, their feelings of personal safety, the incidence of theft in the past year and — for the first time in 2016 — the incidence of assault and mugging in the past year.
