Mekong Delta during the flood season

Last update 11:07 | 10/08/2017

People in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam are busy fishing when the flooding season has come.

On the fields of An Giang Province’s Phu Hoi Commune, nets have been laid to catch fish, crabs and snakes.

Huynh Van Tai, a local resident who has much experience in fishing during the flooding season, said that this year the flooding arrived earlier than expected so many people had not yet prepared for the work.

Bui Thi Suong in Dong Thap Province’s Hong Ngu District said that earlier, his family earned bigger income from fishing on the flooding season. She even hired dozens of workers for the work. However, in recent years, the seafood source has much decreased.

These days, she and her husband are taking advantages of the flooding season to catch some fish for sales in the market.

Some photos of the busy farmers in the Mekong Delta region in the flooding season:

As the U.S. growing season entered its peak this summer, farmers began posting startling pictures on social media: fields of beans, peach orchards and vegetable gardens withering away.

U.S., weed killer crisis, crop damage, investigation
John Weiss looks over his crop of soybeans, which he had reported to the state board for showing signs of damage due to the drifting of Monsanto’s pesticide Dicamba, at his farm in Dell, Arkansas, U.S. July 25, 2017.

The photographs served as early warnings of a crisis that has damaged millions of acres of farmland. New versions of the herbicide dicamba developed by Monsanto and BASF, according to farmers, have drifted across fields to crops unable to withstand it, a charge authorities are investigating. Samsung sets up logistics company as market heats up

Last update 16:00 | 10/08/2017
VietNamNet Bridge – Setting up a logistics joint venture with Minh Phuong, Samsung has shown that it wants to jump into a new business field in Vietnam. But the move may trigger a new war in the domestic logistics market.vietnam economy, business news, vn news, vietnamnet bridge, english news, Vietnam news, news Vietnam, vietnamnet news, vn news, Vietnam net news, Vietnam latest news, Vietnam breaking news, Samsung, logistics services, SYK

For the majority of Vietnamese, Samsung means smartphone, TV and washing machine. However, the South Korean investor has been taking steps towards the logistics markets.

Before joining hands with Minh Phuong, Samsung teamed up with ALS, also a logistics company, to manage the goods terminal at Noi Bai Airport, one of the two largest airports in Vietnam.

Samsung’s involvement in the management at the goods terminal at Noi Bai helps Samsung ensure delivery time and smooth operation of the supply chain. Noi Bai is the biggest export portal for Samsung’s electronic exports manufactured at its two factories in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen.

However, the cooperation with Minh Phuong is another story. The owner of the company was once praised by Bloomberg as the ‘logistics Queen’ of Vietnam. To take part in the domestic logistics market, where road transport makes up 65 percent of the market share, joining hands with Minh Phuong was the most efficient choice. THƯ TÒA SOẠN – EDITOR’S NOTE

Dear readers,

This issue, dated July 2016, actually got to you in early June 2017, almost a year late and 4 and a half months into the reign of King Trump whom we dub in Vietnamese “Chí Phèo”.

Never before has someone wreak such havoc on his country and on the world in such a short time after taking office.  We hope he would not last as long as the Khmer Rouge in the not so distant past. He just came back from his first trip overseas as President, lifting despotic regimes in the Middle East, antagonizing virtually every European allies and pulling the U.S. out of the Paris Accord on climate, thus joining Syria and Nicaragua to face the rest of the world.
