Vietnamese people resort to portable oxygen cylinders for respite from smog

As Vietnam’s big cities have been engulfed in toxic air for months, some Vietnamese people have turned to a novel solution – buying hits of purified oxygen to escape the pollution.

According to data by AirVisual, an independent online air quality index monitor, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s two largest cities, are frequently listed among the world’s worst 20 metropolises in terms of air quality. Cà Mau needs $27m to resettle people living in erosion-hit areas

CÀ MAU — Cà Mau Province authorities has asked the Government for more than VNĐ622 billion (US$27 million) to finance 12 projects for relocating people from areas eroded by the sea and rivers.

At a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hoà Bình on Tuesday, they also sought VNĐ648 billion in emergency assistance to strengthen and upgrade the 23.5km sea dyke section between the Đốc River and Cái Đôi Vàm Town. BRUSSELS – Measures to boost security – defence co-operation between Việt Nam and the European Union (EU) were discussed at their first ever security – defence dialogue held from November 19-24 in Brussels, Belgium.

At the event, both sides spoke highly of the co-operative ties in the field, saying that the establishment of the security-defence dialogue for the first time contributes to promoting mutual understanding and furthering practical and effective co-operation. Hong Kong (CNN)Pro-democracy candidates appear to have made major gains in Hong Kong’s district council elections, as early results trickled in Monday morning, with multiple high-profile pro-government figures losing their seats.

More than 2.9 million people turned out to vote in Sunday’s elections, which have been framed as a de facto referendum on the almost six months of ongoing protests in the semi-autonomous Chinese city. With more than 95% of constituencies declared, pro-democracy candidates appeared to have won a landslide victory.
