Peaceful Hoi An featured in oil paintings

A young painter born in the central province of Quang Nam has to look no further than the provincial tourist city of Hoi An to find inspiration for his works.

Nguyen Huu Duc, born in 1991, proudly said a collection of oil paintings depicting a pure, simple and peaceful Hoi An Ancient Town is the “treasure of my painting career” over the last two years.

Duc has captured all what makes Hoi An known around the world – the town’s ancient houses with red tile roofs, yellow walls and the bougainvilleas. The young painter also finds inspiration in a pair of hens, an aging oil lamp, an old bicycle or a ceramic tea set.

Duc graduated from the Hue University of Fine Arts and currently works as a freelance painter.

All 11 lottery ticket companies in southern Vietnam have collectively channeled nearly VND1,000 billion (US$44.64 million) into sectors outside their main business, the Ministry of Finance’s inspectorate announced.

By the end of 2015, these 11 companies had earmarked more than VND1,078 billion ($48.13 million) for long-term financial investment, though only over VND80.8 billion ($3.61 million) was meant for their core business operations, the finance inspectors said.

The combined non-core investment of these companies amounts to VND997 billion ($44.51 million), according to the inspectors tasked with examining the 2015 consolidated financial reports from the lottery firms. VietNamNet Bridge – Imported meat available at nearly all large supermarkets in Hanoi is surprisingly cheap, posing a threat to the domestic livestock industry.

Brazilian frozen chicken wings were sold at VND74,900 per kilo at Metro Thang Long on March 27. Two months ago, in January 2017, the supermarket sold frozen chicken imports from Brazil at VND51,000 per kilo only.

A supermarket on Trang Dang Ninh street once quoted the price of VND86,900 per kilo for Brazilian chicken wings.

Analysts, after comparing retail prices quoted by supermarkets and import prices provided by customs agencies, came to the conclusion that the price difference is not too big, between VND30,000 and VND50,000 per kilo.

Meanwhile, on online markets, Brazilian meat is offered at the price just equal to one-third of the prices of imports from the US and Australia.

An officer at a clean food distribution company in Dong An district said the selling price is VND145,000 per kilo of beef shank for a 20-kilo box from Brazil, while brisket beef is VND130,000 per kilo.

Meanwhile, a shop in Dong Da district quotes the price of VND170,000 per kilo for Brazilian beef.

VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam’s renewable energy production costs remain higher than other countries as the country still does not have a competitive solar energy market.

Many people in the country have saved money by using solar energy.

A solar energy system with capacity of 1 KW was installed on the terrace of Redsun’s building in district 5, HCMC in 2010. Since then, the system has been operating well, allowing activities at the buildings to run properly even when the electricity from the national grid is cut. The company doesn’t have to run electricity generators which produce noise and dust.

Hiep, of district 6, HCMC installed a 1 KW solar power system on the roof, worth VND80 million. The electricity provided by the system, about 4-5 KW, is used to light four 40W fluorescent lamps, run four electric fans and one TV.

Vietnam’s renewable energy production costs remain higher than other countries as the country still does not have a competitive solar energy market.

With the 2 KW solar power system, VH in Ham Tan district of Binh Thuan province can save two-thirds of expenses on electricity.

The outstanding feature of the system is that it allows him to automatically use the electricity from the national grid when the system cannot provide enough electricity.
