Senior Vietnamese military officers on April 22 met with more than a dozen U.S. defense contractors in Hanoi, including Boeing, BAE Systems, and Lockheed Martin, in a meeting organized by the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi as Vietnam looks to beef up its maritime defenses. U.S. defense contractors have sought to engage Vietnam following the partial easing of the U.S. ban on the sale of lethal weapons to Hanoi last October. Vietnam’s military spending reached $4.3 billion in 2014, an increase of 128 percent since 2005.
