Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — The undersea Asia-America Gateway (AAG) internet cable – one of the six cables connecting Việt Nam with the rest of the world – has ruptured since Tuesday morning.
This is the fifth time the cable has broken this year, slowing down internet speed in the country.

Hany Farid, a computer scientist at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, specialises in detecting manipulated images and videos. Farid, who provides his services to clients as varied as universities, media organizations, and law courts, says that image manipulation is becoming both more frequent and more sophisticated. He spoke to Nature about the arms race to stay ahead of the forgers.
Where do you start when trying to spot a fake image?
One simple but powerful technique is reverse image search. You give the image to a site such as Google Image Search or TinEye, and they show you all other instances of it. A project at Columbia University, in New York City, is taking this to the next level, and starting to find parts of images that have been repurposed from other images.

The State Bank of Vietnam has said Bitcoin is banned in the country and those who break this rule will be subject to fines or even criminal charges, following an announcement by a private local university to accept the digital currency as tuition.

The fine was imposed by officials from the provincial Department of Information and Communications on Pham Van Toan, a resident of Thoi Binh Commune, Thoi Binh District.

APG cable improves Vietnam’s internet security
VietNamNet Bridge – Though the APG submarine cable broke twice in six months, Vietnam Internet Association’s (VIA) secretary general Vu The Binh said that APG has helped improve security and provisioning capability for Vietnam’s internet.
Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) was put into trial operation in late October and became officially operational in mid-December 2016, after four years of installation.
The APG project attracted many Asian telecom groups, including Japanese NTT Docomo, Chinese China Telecom and South Korean KT. Internet traffic insignificantly affected by undersea cable rupture

The rupture of two undersea cable lines Asia-America Gateway (AAG) and Intra-Asia (IA) in waters off Hong Kong’s coast on August 28 has insignificant impacts on Internet traffic in Vietnam, said domestic Internet service providers.

When the problem is fixed remains unknown but such incidents often take several weeks to handle.
Before the Asia-Pacific Gateway (APG) submarine cable system was put into operation in late 2016, 70% of international Internet traffic of Vietnam relied on AAG, while IA, Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 3 (SMW3) and overland cable systems were only responsible for the remaining 30%.
