The Hanoitimes – Local authorities are trialing ways to prevent multinationals from structuring affairs in order to divert profits to low tax jurisdictions.

Tax authorities are stepping up efforts to deal with possible tax avoidance or evasion by foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs) to ensure that they pay the tax due in Vietnam.
The revenue loss associated with tax issues was equal to 1% of Vietnam’s GDP.

Huizhou city on the north of China’s flourishing Pearl River Delta has turned into a ghost town after Samsung closed its three-decade old factory and shifted operations to Vietnam and India in October, in the first visible fallout of the ongoing trade war between China and the US. Vietnamese textile manufacturers are seeing orders decline with buyers moving to others, cheaper developing countries.

Normally, by the end of a year they would have enough orders for the whole of the following year, Nguyen Van Thoi, chairman of TNG Investment and Trading JSC, which makes garments, said.

But this year many businesses have said they do not have enough orders for 2020, with some reporting a 20 percent drop in orders from last year. Besides, many have not signed long-term contracts for products, only monthly or quarterly, he said.

A Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) official, who wished not to be named, said many orders have shifted to emerging countries in Africa, while competition with textiles superpowers like China, India and Bangladesh is becoming increasingly fierce.

Chỉ có 2 dự án điện mặt trời đủ điều kiện vận hành thương mại từ sau ngày 30/6/2019 tới nay, giảm mạnh so với khoảng 80 dự án vận hành ồ ạt trong 3 tháng trước đó.

 Việc mua thiết bị cho dự án điện mặt trời khó khăn vì tiền đâu mà trả khi đa phần các chủ đầu tư chỉ có khoảng 30% vốn chủ sở hữu..

Chủ đầu tư “ngồi trên lửa”

Phát biểu tại Tuần lễ Lưới điện thông minh đang diễn ra tại Hà Nội, đại diện Trung tâm Điều độ Hệ thống điện Quốc gia (A0) cho biết, từ sau ngày 30/6/2019 tới nay, chỉ có 2 dự án điện mặt trời hoàn tất điều kiện vận hành thương mại (COD) là Nhà máy Hacom Solar (40,3 MW) và Solar Park 01 (40 MW).

So với hơn 4.000 MW điện mặt trời được đưa vào hệ thống từ tháng 4 đến hết tháng 6/2019, đã có sự chững lại trong việc triển khai các dự án điện mặt trời. Vietnam already supports five operating commercial airlines and a sixth is on the way. That’s because so many of the country’s newly minted middle class is literally going places.

Vietnam’s civil aviation authority estimates air passenger traffic will reach 131 million by 2020 following average growth of 16% last year and this year. By 2030, the authority expects 280 million civilian air trips per year.

The Hanoitimes – Samsung would continue to increase investment in R&D and supporting industries in Vietnam and seeks more support from the Vietnamese government, said Lee Jae-young, vice chairman of Samsung.

Samsung’s US$300- million research and development (R&D) center, scheduled to become operational in 2022 in Hanoi, would employ 3,000 local engin  eers, according to Lee Jae-young, vice chairman of Samsung.

Samsung is committed to ensuring efficient operation and successes of its production facilities in Vietnam, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development and Vietnam – South Korea relations, Lee said in a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Seoul in November 28.

The Hanoitimes – Vietnam’s trade turnover reached US$473.73 billion in the January – November period, of which its exports amounted to US241.42 billion, up 7.8% year-on-year, and imports totaled US$232.31 billion, up 7.4%.

Vietnam remains among top 10 remittance recipients in 2019

The Hanoitimes – Remittance, along with foreign direct and indirect investment and official development assistance, is a major source of Vietnam’s foreign currency supply.

In 2019, in current US dollar terms, Vietnam is projected to be among the 10 largest remittance recipients with an inflow of nearly US$16.7 billion, or 6.4% of its GDP, a slight increase from the US$16 billion received in 2018, according to the World Bank’s latest data.

HCMC to get 150-ha public park

Ho Chi Minh City has green-lighted the construction of a 150-hectare park in District 12 in the northwest.

The multipurpose park, to be situated in Thanh Xuan and Thoi An wards, would increase the total area of parks in the city by a third from the current 491 hectares.
