I am an attorney in the Washington DC area, with a Doctor of Law in the US, attended the master program at the National School of Administration of Việt Nam, and graduated from Sài Gòn University Law School. I aso studied philosophy at the School of Letters in Sài Gòn. . I have worked as an anti-trust attorney for Federal Trade Commission and a litigator for a fortune-100 telecom company in Washington DC. I have taught law courses for legal professionals in Việt Nam and still counsel VN government agencies on legal matters. I have founded and managed businesses for me and my family, both law and non-law. I have published many articles on national newspapers and radio stations in Việt Nam. In 1989 I was one of the founding members of US-VN Trade Council, working to re-establish US-VN relationship. Since the early 90's, I have established and managed VNFORUM and VNBIZ forum on VN-related matters; these forums are the subject of a PhD thesis by Dr. Caroline Valverde at UC-Berkeley and her book Transnationalizing Viet Nam. I translate poetry and my translation of "A Request at Đồng Lộc Cemetery" is now engraved on a stone memorial at Đồng Lộc National Shrine in VN. I study and teach the Bible and Buddhism. In 2009 I founded and still manage dotchuoinon.com on positive thinking and two other blogs on Buddhism. In 2015 a group of friends and I founded website CVD - Conversations on Vietnam Development (cvdvn.net). I study the art of leadership with many friends who are religious, business and government leaders from many countries. I have written these books, published by Phu Nu Publishing House in Hanoi: "Positive Thinking to Change Your Life", in Vietnamese (TƯ DUY TÍCH CỰC Thay Đổi Cuộc Sống) (Oct. 2011) "10 Core Values for Success" (10 Giá trị cốt lõi của thành công) (Dec. 2013) "Live a Life Worth Living" (Sống Một Cuộc Đời Đáng Sống) (Oct. 2023) I practice Jiu Jitsu and Tai Chi for health, and play guitar as a hobby, usually accompanying my wife Trần Lê Túy Phượng, aka singer Linh Phượng.

Q: According to Vietnamese media reports, a Vietnamese air force Su-30 plane went missing over the Beibu Gulf on June 14 with one pilot on board. Vietnam then sent a coast guard search and rescue aircraft which also went missing on June 16 with 9 search and rescue personnel on board. Officials from the Vietnamese defense ministry notified this to the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, and asked China for help in the search process and to provide convenience for Vietnamese planes and vessels on the search operation. Đền thờ Lễ Thành Hầu Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh tại Công viên Văn hóa lịch sử dân tộc với tổng mức đầu tư 55 tỷ đồng vừa được khánh thành sáng 20/6.

Dự án được khởi công từ ngày 20/4/2015 và khánh thành vào hôm nay, nhân ngày giỗ lần thứ 316 Đức Lễ Thành Hầu Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh (nhằm 16 tháng 5 năm Bính Thân).

Công trình có diện tích hơn 7.400m2, gồm các hạng mục: Khối đền chính, nhà điều hành, cổng Tam quan, Văn bia, hồ nước… Trong đó, khối đền chính được xây theo kiến trúc truyền thống của người Việt nói chung và kiến trúc đình đền dân gian Nam bộ nói riêng bằng các chất liệu gỗ tự nhiên, nền lót gạch đất nung, mái ngói âm dương, cửa cách điệu cây lá vùng sông nước Nam bộ.

A final ruling is expected soon from a tribunal at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague hearing Manila’s case against Beijing’s claims in the South China Sea. How many countries recognize the decision as legally binding on both parties and call for it to be respected will determine its ultimate value, as international pressure is the court’s only enforcement mechanism. In an effort to deflect that pressure, Chinese officials and state media have been trumpeting the number of countries that have voiced support for Beijing’s position that the tribunal lacks jurisdiction in the case and the ruling is therefore invalid. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims that number has climbed to 60, but has not provided a list of the countries or, in most cases, evidence for their support. Compare Vietnam Human Rights problems with US Human Rights problems

TĐH: As President Obama mentioned during his VN visit that human rights is a significant matter of US foreign affairs policy, I post here the 2015 report on human rights in Vietnam, compiled by the US Department of State. And to be fair, I also post the 2015 report on human rights in USA, compiled by Human Right Watch (because the US State Department doesn’t do a report on USA).

Human Rights is always a contentious matter among nations. However, knowing how a friend is seeing, correctly or incorrectly, another friend’s problem, hopefully will facilitate the VN-US dialogue and cooperation on Human Rights.

The Socialist Republic of Vietnam is an authoritarian state ruled by a single party, the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), and led by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and President Truong Tan Sang. The most recent National Assembly elections, held in 2011, were neither free nor fair, despite limited competition among CPV-vetted candidates.
