Muslims began the annual haj pilgrimage this year on July 29, 2020 in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. But the 2020 pilgrimage is very different because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Only about 10,000 residents of the kingdom were selected to join, instead of the usual millions of pilgrims who arrive from around the world. As part of the ritual, the Kaaba’s sacred black stone is normally kissed, but that practice as well as other activities have been banned. The pilgrimage will last through to August 2, 2020.

Covid-19 Reveals Critical Flaw In European Power Systems – Lack Of Flexibility
Coronavirus had a sudden and dramatic negative impact on power demand, which fell by 20% in the UK during the lockdown period with similar drops across Europe. Coronavirus power demand destruction has given us a glimpse into the future when variable renewable energy (VRE: wind and solar) makes up a higher proportion of power supply. At current levels, the power system lacks the flexibility to support this variability: the bigger the share of VRE in a system, the greater the challenge.

Vietnam coal consumption growth among world’s fastest

Vietnam posted the highest growth in coal consumption among the top 10 global consumers last year, a report found.
The country consumed 2.07 exajoules of electricity from coal last year, up 30.2 percent year-on-year, according to the “BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2020” report by energy firm BP.

Trước đó, trên Facebook cá nhân, ông Nguyễn Văn Phước – nhà sáng lập và CEO công ty sách First News – tố cáo các sàn thương mại điện tử như Lazada, Shopee, Sendo có các gian hàng bày bán sách vi phạm bản quyền của First News, Alpha Books và các nhà xuất bản khác. Ông Nguyễn Cảnh Bình – Chủ tịch Alpha Books – cũng lên án các trang Lazada, Shopee, Sendo… và vài trăm trang bán sách giả khác bán sách không có bản quyền của công ty ông Bình.
Trong văn bản trả lời ICTnews, phía Alpha Books khẳng định rất nhiều sách được lưu hành trên thị trường là sách giả, theo Điều 213 Luật Sở hữu trí tuệ 2015, và định nghĩa về hàng giả của Cục Quản lý thị trường, Bộ Công thương.

Having grown up in Canada, he says that the U.S.S.R. was always a mystery to him. Something dark and inexplicable. NREL Research Points to Strategies for Recycling of Solar Panels
Researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have conducted the first global assessment into the most promising approaches to end-of-life management for solar photovoltaic (PV) modules.
PV modules have a 30-year lifespan. There is currently no plan for how to manage this at end of their lifespan. The volume of modules no longer needed could total 80 million metric tons by 2050. In addition to quantity, the nature of the waste also poses challenges. PV modules are made of valuable, precious, critical, and toxic materials. There is currently no standard for how to recycle the valuable ones and mitigate the toxic ones.
Numerous articles review individual options for PV recycling but, until now, no one has done a global assessment of all PV recycling efforts to identify the most promising approaches.
“PV is a major part of the energy transition,” said Garvin Heath, a senior scientist at NREL who specializes in sustainability science. “We must be good stewards of these materials and develop a circular economy for PV modules.”

A draft national strategy on environmental protection from 2021-2030 focuses on fighting sources of pollution while boosting a low-carbon emission economy.

The idea is to help Vietnam realise the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by2030.
In 2012, the first national strategy for environmental protection with a visiontowards 2030 was launched.
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Vo Tuan Nhan said thestrategy had created positive changes to environmental protectionawareness. Employment Assessment of Renewable Energy: Power sector pathways compatible with NDCs and national energy plans
This technical report is the first GGGI study that focuses on the nexus of sustainable energy and green jobs. Based on researched conducted in three GGGI member countries – Mexico, Indonesia, and Rwanda, the study assessed the job creation potential of renewable energy technologies under various power sector pathways based on National Energy Plans and countries’ NDCs. Occupation and skills required by the renewable energy sector for each stage of the value chain were also identified and assessed. The analysis highlights the important role that assessments of employment effects can play during the revision of countries’ NDCs while simultaneously addressing the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to affordable and clean energy (7), decent work and economic growth (8) and climate action (13).

Air conditioning was devised not for comfort but for industry, specifically to control temperature and humidity in a color printing factory in Brooklyn. The process required feeding paper into the presses a number of times, once for each of the component colors, and the slightest misalignment caused by changes in humidity produced defective copies that had to be thrown away.
