Ducks, fish die en masse in central Vietnamese village

Countless farm-raised ducks and fish from a village in the central Vietnamese province of Quang Nam have been found dead overnight, with the cause yet to be concluded.

The deaths were discovered on Tuesday morning in a section of a stream in An Chanh Village, Dai Tan Commune, Dai Loc District.

After finding out about the mass deaths, local residents gathered at the People’s Committee headquarters in Dai Tan to report the situation.

Exxon’s work is focused on a field in undisputed territory about 80 kilometers (50 miles) offshore from central Vietnam, spokesman Aaron Stryk said in response to e-mailed questions. He declined to comment on reports China warned Exxon against exploring in disputed areas.

“Border issues are a matter for governments to address through appropriate channels,” Stryk said. “We have a successful history of working with various governments and partners around the world to maximize the value of hydrocarbon resources.”

Theo báo cáo của Sở NNPTNT Hà Tĩnh, vụ xuân năm 2017 toàn tỉnh gieo hơn 58.000ha lúa gồm các giống lúa chủ lực Thiên Ưu 8; Bắc Thơm 7; P6; Nhị Ưu… Từ tháng 2.2017, tại một số địa phương xuất hiện bệnh đạo ôn gây hại lúa với diện tích lúa bị nhiễm bệnh lên tới gần 20.000ha, trong đó có 12.000ha lúa Thiên Ưu 8 bị mất trắng hoàn toàn.

In the past tens of years, Colonel Dang Minh Tam, former officer of the Lam Dong Provincial Police has overcome various difficulties going to rural villages to collect artifacts related to traditions, rituals and lifestyles of ethnic minority people in the Central Highlands in an attempt to preserve the soul of the ethnic minorities amid the “international integration” wave and “cultural artifacts drains”.


The number of artifacts of ethnic minority people in the Central Highlands collected by Mr. Tam has reached tens of thousands.


The “throne” of Elephant’s King. According to its owner, before hunts for elephants in the forest for domestication to serve people, young men from the villages had to ask Elephant’s King for permission. Nguyen dynasty treasures on display in Da Lat

A total of 36 precious artifacts, from the Nguyen dynasty period (1802-1945), are on display at an exhibition that opened recently at Lam Dong museum in Da Lat city.

The artifacts, made of gold and gemstones, include flower vases; daily utensils such as bowls and basins; objects used in royal worship and rituals; and items used in royal office, including brushes, ink stone, paperweights and pen holders.

All of the items were carefully carved with highly sophisticated decorative patterns, showing the talent of Vietnam’s craft masters.

Flax weaving by Mong ethnics in Dong Van Karst Plateau

For generations, the Mong ethnic minority group in the Dong Van Karst Plateau, northern Ha Giang province, has woven threads made of flax plant into colourful fabrics.

“Tánh anh nóng nảy, nổi cộc lên thì coi hung lắm, phải đi chùa cho nó trầm tính lại”. Đã một thời, nhiều lần vợ tôi đã nhận xét và đề nghị như vậy.

Ngày xưa, bố tôi theo Tây học, từ Bắc vào Nam làm báo, ra cả báo Pháp và dịch sách, tánh khí nghệ sĩ, phóng dật, khiến cho căn nhà nhỏ của gia đình ở khu Đa Kao thời đó thỉnh thoảng lại chộn rộn cái không khí văn chương chữ nghĩa. Có lần, lấy cớ cần khui một chai rượu chát rất xưa, bố tôi mời vài người bạn thân đến nhà chơi. Cần nói thêm là trong bạn bè của bố tôi thời đó, tôi khoái một bác cùng dân Bắc kỳ, để chút râu kiểu Hitler dưới mũi, thường phong nhã với bộ cánh veston, foulard…,  đó là nhà thơ/nhà văn TCHYA Đái Đức Tuấn. Núp phía sau một bức bình phong, tôi lén theo dõi người lớn nói đủ thứ chuyện trên đời. Chợt tôi nghe bác TCHYA cười, vỗ vai bố tôi, gật gù bảo: “…Vậy là toa cũng rất libéral về vấn đề tôn giáo!”.
