Students seek luck before exam at Temple of Literature

Students often visit Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam, or Temple of Literature, in the days running up to their annual exams to pray for luck.

Many students are flocking to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university, before their high school graduation exams which are scheduled to take place from June 22 to 24.

The temple, the main Confucian school in feudal times, was built in 1070 in the time of Emperor Ly Nhan Tong. It includes various pavilions, halls, statues and steles and is still venerated as place of respect. Modern students still indulge in this tradition.

Ducks, fish die en masse in central Vietnamese village

Countless farm-raised ducks and fish from a village in the central Vietnamese province of Quang Nam have been found dead overnight, with the cause yet to be concluded.

The deaths were discovered on Tuesday morning in a section of a stream in An Chanh Village, Dai Tan Commune, Dai Loc District.

After finding out about the mass deaths, local residents gathered at the People’s Committee headquarters in Dai Tan to report the situation.

Theo báo cáo của Sở NNPTNT Hà Tĩnh, vụ xuân năm 2017 toàn tỉnh gieo hơn 58.000ha lúa gồm các giống lúa chủ lực Thiên Ưu 8; Bắc Thơm 7; P6; Nhị Ưu… Từ tháng 2.2017, tại một số địa phương xuất hiện bệnh đạo ôn gây hại lúa với diện tích lúa bị nhiễm bệnh lên tới gần 20.000ha, trong đó có 12.000ha lúa Thiên Ưu 8 bị mất trắng hoàn toàn.
