The United States stands with The Philippines in the face of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Coast Guard’s continued infringement upon freedom of navigation in the South China Sea. Imagery and video recently published in the media is a stark reminder of PRC harassment and intimidation of Philippine vessels as they undertake routine patrols within their exclusive economic zone. We call upon Beijing to desist from its provocative and unsafe conduct. The United States continues to track and monitor these interactions closely.

TTCT – Dù là đồng minh có hiệp ước của nhau và vừa thắt chặt thêm tình hữu nghị về quân sự, quan hệ Mỹ – Philippines thật ra không phải lúc nào cũng bằng phẳng.
Khi tôi đến thăm Subic Bay năm 1998, khu chế xuất vừa hoạt động và hãng xưởng còn lưa thưa. Đây là khu miễn thuế, ra vào phải qua kiểm soát hải quan, chỗ mua sắm chỉ có vài hàng quán mới mở và loãng khách với một khu phức hợp và ba rạp phim.
Cả khu còn do quân đội Philippines quản lý, hoang vắng với những nhà kho tiền chế và bungalow quân đội Mỹ bỏ lại nằm bắt bụi từ 1992.

Marcos, known in the Philippines by his nickname Bongbong, has risen to the country’s highest office after a social media-driven campaign helped to rehabilitate his family’s image, transforming memories of the bloody days of martial law, when thousands were tortured and killed, to a nostalgic golden era.

TTCT – Các quốc gia Đông Nam Á xung quanh khu vực Biển Đông đều đã chuẩn bị cho một tương lai mới, dự kiến sẽ bất trắc hơn.
Theo Công ty tài chính PricewaterhouseCoopers thì năm 2030, 5 cường quốc đứng đầu thế giới về kinh tế sẽ xếp hạng như sau: Trung Quốc, Hoa Kỳ, Ấn Độ và Nhật Bản là 4 nước đầu. Đây là chuyện dễ hiểu. Nước thứ 6 là Nga. Vậy nước thứ 5 là nước nào? Anh hay Đức? Pháp hay Brazil, Mexico? Hàn Quốc? Năm 2030, nếu mọi chuyện đúng dự đoán, cường quốc kinh tế hạng 5 thế giới sẽ là Indonesia.
Trong khi chờ đợi ngày vinh quang xa vời ấy, hiện tính GDP theo mãi lực tương đương (PPP) thì Indonesia mới đứng hàng thứ 7 (IMF 2019). Tính theo danh nghĩa thì Indonesia hàng 16 với GDP là 1.210 tỉ đôla, hơn 4 lần Việt Nam.

hông báo trên trang Twitter hôm 8-4, Bộ Tư lệnh Ấn Độ -Thái Bình Dương cho biết các thủy thủ trên tàu USS Makin Island (Mỹ) đã tiến hành một cuộc diễn tập bắn đạn thật với lời kêu gọi đảm bảo “một khu vực Ấn Độ -Thái Bình Dương tự do và mở”.
Trước đó, tàu sân bay USS Theodore Roosevelt của Mỹ đã tiến hành tập trận cùng với Malaysia trong hai ngày 6 và 7-4. Đây là lần thứ hai nhóm tác chiến tàu sân bay Theodore Roosevelt tiến vào biển Đông để thực hiện nhiệm vụ trong năm 2021, lần đầu diễn ra hồi cuối tháng 1.

MANILA – The United States will upgrade and build facilities on Philippine military bases this year, Manila’s defense minister said on Thursday, bolstering an alliance strained by President Rodrigo Duterte’s opposition to a U.S. troop presence.
The Pentagon gave the green light to start the work as part of an Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA), a 2014 pact that Duterte has threatened to scrap during barrages of hostility towards the former colonial power.
