(TNO) Mỹ đang thực hiện chiến lược xoay trục về châu Á nhưng tham vọng này sẽ không thể thành công hoàn toàn chừng nào Washington chưa cho phép… con cá tra của Việt Nam “tự do bơi đến Mỹ”.

China ‘extremely concerned’ by proposed U.S. challenge to claims

BEIJING

China said on Friday it was “extremely concerned” about a suggestion from a top U.S. commander that U.S. ships and aircraft should challenge China’s claims in the South China Sea by patrolling close to artificial islands it has built.

On a mild, sunny morning last November, Chuck Searcy and I drove out along a spur of the old Ho Chi Minh Trail to the former Marine base at Khe Sanh, which sits in a bowl of green mountains and coffee plantations in Vietnam’s Quang Tri province, hard on the border with Laos. The seventy-seven-day siege of Khe Sanh in early 1968, coinciding with the Tet Offensive, was the longest battle of what Vietnamese call the American War and a pivotal event in the conflict. By the off-kilter logic of Saigon and Washington, unleashing enough technology and firepower to produce a ten-to-one kill ratio was a metric of success, but the televised carnage of 1968, in which 16,592 Americans died, was too much for audiences back home. The U.S. and Malaysia have been secretly discussing expanded use of Malaysian territory for hosting U.S. spy planes to patrol the South China Sea, in response to increased Chinese activity in the disputed territory.

Following a series of incursions into Malaysian waters by Chinese vessels in recent months, talks between the U.S. government and the office of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak have intensified, two senior U.S. defense officials said. The U.S. side has been pressing Najib’s government to allow the U.S. Navy to fly both P-8 Poseidon and P-3 Orion maritime surveillance planes from Malaysian airstrips over South China Sea areas where the Chinese government has been rapidly building artificial islands. Ten U.S. Marines and soldiers are in the Australian Outback for Kowari 15, a trilateral exercise with Chinese and Australian forces that focuses on survival in harsh environments.

Kowari, which runs through Sept. 12 and first took place last year, provides participants with an understanding of the basic principles, procedures, techniques and equipment to survive severe conditions, the Australian army said in a statement.

NCDT – Trong khi gạo Việt Nam chỉ tập trung ở những nước thu nhập trung bình và thấp, gạo Campuchia đã tiến sang những thị trường khó tính như Mỹ và châu Âu.

Số liệu từ Văn phòng Thư ký dịch vụ một cửa về xuất khẩu gạo Campuchia cho biết, 7 tháng đầu năm nay, Campuchia xuất khẩu được 312.300 tấn gạo. So về con số tuyệt đối thì sản lượng xuất khẩu gạo của Campuchia chỉ bằng 1/10 của Việt Nam. NASA and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Monday launched SERVIR-Mekong, a joint project to strengthen regional environmental monitoring in five countries in the lower Mekong region of Southeast Asia.

The Obama administration is developing a package of unprecedented economic sanctions against Chinese companies and individuals who have benefited from their government’s cybertheft of valuable U.S. trade secrets.

The U.S. government has not yet decided whether to issue these sanctions, but a final call is expected soon — perhaps even within the next two weeks, according to several administration officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. The United States will increase the number of drills it conducts in the Asia-Pacific as part of its new strategy to counter to China’s expansion in the South China Sea, the Philippine military said on Wednesday.

 Admiral Harry Harris, commander of the US Pacific Command, discussed the Pentagon’s recently drafted Asia Pacific Maritime Security Strategy with his Filipino counterpart, General Hernando Iriberri, during a visit to Manila, Reuters reported.
