One of the most famous examples of religious violence in the Middle Ages is of course the Crusades – attempts by European Christians to impose their vision of religion upon Jews, Orthodox Christians, heretics, Muslims, and just about anyone else who happened to get in the way. Traditionally the term “Crusades” are limited to describing massive military expeditions by Christians to the Middle East, but it is more accurate to acknowledge that there also existed “crusades” internal to Europe and directed at local minority groups. SIRSA: Hundreds of troops on Saturday (Aug 26) laid siege to the headquarters of a sect led by a controversial Indian guru whose conviction for rape triggered deadly clashes that have killed at least 36 people.

COX’S BAZAR, Bangladesh: Bangladesh has detained and forcibly returned 90 Rohingya migrants to Myanmar, police said Sunday (Aug 27), just hours after Myanmar troops on the other side of the border had opened fire on people fleeing the country.

Police intercepted a group of 70 Rohingya late Saturday after they crossed the “zero line” border zone, where Myanmar soldiers earlier fired mortars and machine guns at villagers making the dangerous dash from the northern state of Rakhine into Bangladesh. Bangladeshi border guards say troops fired mortars and machine guns at Rohingya civilians trying to escape bloodshed.

Myanmar soldiers opened fire on fleeing Rohingya civilians – mostly women and children – as they attempted to cross the border into Bangladesh and escape surging violence.

On Saturday, an AFP news agency reporter at Bangladesh’s Ghumdhum border post counted more than a dozen mortar shells and countless machine-gun rounds fired by Myanmar security forces in nearby hills onto a large group of Rohingya desperately trying to cross.

It was not immediately clear if any were hit, but the civilians scattered to evade the barrage.

Chính phủ thể hiện sự tăng thêm nỗ lực thông qua việc xác định các nạn nhân; mở rộng các chương trình đào tạo về chống buôn người và chiến dịch nhận thức cho các cán bộ thực thi pháp luật, cán bộ địa phương, thành viên của các nhóm có nguy cơ bị buôn bán; và ban hành hướng dẫn tới các bộ liên quan, lãnh đạo các tỉnh về kế hoạch hành động quốc gia chống nạn buôn người. China’s 3 Crimes of War of Aggression against the Vietnamese People

The UN General Assembly’s Declaration on Principles of International Law concerning Friendly Relations and Co-operation among States in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations (Oct. 17, 1970) (hereinafter “the Declaration”) provided, inter alia, “The principle that States shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State or in any other manner inconsistent with the purposes of the United Nations”.

Amendments to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal
Court on the Crime of Aggression

1. Article 5, paragraph 2, of the Statute is deleted.

2. The following text is inserted after article 8 of the Statute:

Article 8 bis -Crime of aggression

1. For the purpose of this Statute, “crime of aggression” means the planning, preparation, initiation or execution, by a person in a position effectively to exercise control over or to direct the political or military action of a State, of an act of aggression which, by its character, gravity and scale, constitutes a manifest violation of the Charter of the United Nations. The jailing of Joshua Wong, Hong Kong’s youthful “face of protest”, and of his fellow activists Nathan Law and Alex Chow, is technically a matter of law but in reality one of politics. Two of them had already carried out community service for unlawful assembly or inciting unlawful assembly; the third had received a suspended sentence. That was not enough. They have been at the forefront of the pro-democracy movement, inspiring many more in Hong Kong to rally in defence of the greater freedoms it has enjoyed compared to the mainland under the “one country-two systems” formula. Authorities have been determined to silence these voices. By appealing against the “rather dangerous” supposed leniency of the original sentences, they have succeeded, for now.
