Chúng tôi theo một đoàn khách Trung Quốc vào một điểm bán hàng “khép kín” tại TP Nha Trang, mặt hàng là gối, nệm cao su.

Tại đây, hàng trăm người đang nêm kín cửa hàng rộng hàng trăm mét vuông để chọn lựa các mặt hàng. Khách các đoàn phải đeo thẻ xanh, vàng khác nhau và có số thứ tự để kiểm soát, phân biệt.

BEIJING: China issued new regulations on Friday (Jun 30) around online video content, directing streaming platforms to eliminate a range of programs in yet another tightening of controls on the Chinese Internet.

TTO – Tại hội nghị thượng đỉnh về đại dương do Liên Hiệp Quốc lần đầu tổ chức, các đại biểu đến từ Trung Quốc, Thái Lan, Indonesia và Philippines cho biết họ sẽ cố dọn sạch rác nhựa trên biển.

A growing chorus of Chinese human rights lawyers and activists are calling for Nobel Peace Prize-winning activist Liu Xiaobo’s unconditional release after he was granted medical parole to undergo treatment for late-stage liver cancer.

The US also added its voice on Tuesday urging China to give Liu and his wife, Liu Xia, freedom to move and choose his own doctors.

On the horizon, the azure sea water stops and the white, concrete structures of the Chinese military base rise up.

“Sometimes we get nervous because we are only civilians. If they invade the island, they can harm us. They can do whatever they want,” says Romeo Malaguit, a fisherman and father of two, who lives on the nearby Philippine-claimed island Thitu.

US defense contractor accused of spying for China

WASHINGTON: A US defense contractor and former State Department security officer was arrested by American counterintelligence officials on Thursday (Jun 22) and charged with spying for China.

The Justice Department said Kevin Mallory of Leesburg, Virginia had sold classified documents to Chinese intelligence agents on trips to Shanghai in March and April.

China to introduce national standard for English translations in attempt to rid country of Chinglish

Tired of getting laughed at by visitors for its hilariously bad English translations, China is planning to institute a set of fun-killing national guidelines aimed at wiping out the scourge of Chinglish once and for all.

This new English translation standard will go into effect on December 1st, 2017 — a dark day in the 5,000 years of Chinese history — in order to improve the quality of English translations in 13 different public arenas like transportation, entertainment and medicine. Additionally, it will provide a list of standardized translations for some 3,500 commonly used phrases and terms.

New York Times  ngày 21/6/2016 có đưa tin về vụ thượng tướng Phạm Trường Long, Phó Chủ tịch Quân uỷ Trung ương Trung Quốc bỏ ngang cuộc Giao lưu hữu nghị Quốc phòng biên giới Việt – Trung lần thứ 4 và về nước. Bộ QP TQ nói đó là vì “lý do liên quan đến việc sắp xếp làm việc”.  Nguồn tin từ phía Việt Nam (nặc danh) là hai bên cãi nhau trong cuộc họp kín về “những vùng tranh chấp về chủ quyền” ở Biển Đông.

Tướng Phạm thăm VN chính thức 2 ngày 18 và 19 tháng 6, 2017. Theo lịch đã sắp, thì ngày 20 đến 22/6 sẽ dùng cho Giao lưu hữu nghị Quốc phòng. Báo VN chẳng nói gì về chuyện tướng Phạm bỏ về. Một số báo Việt có tường thuật tướng Phạm gặp các lãnh đạo VN trong ngày 18/6. Nhưng tướng Phạm bỏ về cuối ngày 18, sau đó các bài báo đều được gỡ bỏ. YULIN: A notorious Chinese dog meat festival opened on Wednesday (Jun 21) with sellers torching the hair off carcasses, butchers chopping slabs of canines and cooks frying up dishes, dispelling rumours that authorities would ban sales this year.

After earlier reports of a sales ban at the summer solstice event in the southern city of Yulin, animal rights groups said vendors and officials reached a compromise and set a limit of two dogs on display per stall.

Chuyện ExxonMobil có lẽ không quá mới như nhiều người tưởng.

Trước hết tóm tắt hai thỏa thuận ký ngày 13/1/2017:

ExxonMobil và PetroVietnam Exploration Production Company ký 2 hợp đồng để khai thác dự án Cá Voi Xanh (Blue Whate) – một “head of agreement” cho khung dự án (project framework) và một “head of agreement” về giá hơi gas.

Head of agreement thì chưa phải là hợp đồng mà chỉ là một số điểm tổng quát để khai triển hợp đồng sau này.  Head of agreement do đó chưa có giá trị pháp lý của một hợp đồng.  Tuy vậy, thường nó cũng cho biết là hai bên đã rất nghiêm chỉnh làm việc với nhau.  Ở đây ta sẽ dùng chữ “thỏa thuận” cho hai heads of agreement này.
