I am an attorney in the Washington DC area, with a Doctor of Law in the US, attended the master program at the National School of Administration of Việt Nam, and graduated from Sài Gòn University Law School. I aso studied philosophy at the School of Letters in Sài Gòn. . I have worked as an anti-trust attorney for Federal Trade Commission and a litigator for a fortune-100 telecom company in Washington DC. I have taught law courses for legal professionals in Việt Nam and still counsel VN government agencies on legal matters. I have founded and managed businesses for me and my family, both law and non-law. I have published many articles on national newspapers and radio stations in Việt Nam. In 1989 I was one of the founding members of US-VN Trade Council, working to re-establish US-VN relationship. Since the early 90's, I have established and managed VNFORUM and VNBIZ forum on VN-related matters; these forums are the subject of a PhD thesis by Dr. Caroline Valverde at UC-Berkeley and her book Transnationalizing Viet Nam. I translate poetry and my translation of "A Request at Đồng Lộc Cemetery" is now engraved on a stone memorial at Đồng Lộc National Shrine in VN. I study and teach the Bible and Buddhism. In 2009 I founded and still manage dotchuoinon.com on positive thinking and two other blogs on Buddhism. In 2015 a group of friends and I founded website CVD - Conversations on Vietnam Development (cvdvn.net). I study the art of leadership with many friends who are religious, business and government leaders from many countries. China and Thailand recently agreed in Guangzhou on a canal project through the Kra Isthmus, the narrowest part of the Malay peninsula in southern Thailand, which means the project, in the pipeline for years, may start construction soon, according to the website of Hong Kong-based Oriental Daily. Một chương trình bí mật do Mao Trạch Đông cho lập ra để tìm thuốc chống sốt rét cho quân đội Bắc Việt Nam thời chiến tranh giúp bà Đồ U U được giải Nobel Y học 2015, theo báo Anh.

One half of this year’s Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine went to Tu Youyou for her discovery of the antimalarial drug artemisinin. Many of us who do research in the biological sciences have felt that this award was long overdue.

The discovery of artemisinin has saved the lives of millions. And so the Nobel is proper recognition for Dr. Tu, for China and for the advancing role of women in science here and around the world.

There is an interesting and illuminating back story to Dr. Tu’s discovery. India’s The Hindu relates the story here:

(In the 1960s North Vietnam and the Vietcong were were at war with the U.S. which had launched a massive invasion, and malaria was rampant in the region. jw) Struggling to deal with a malaria-ridden army, Vietnamese Prime Minister Ho Chi Minh requested Chairman Mao to establish a secret military research programme to look for a cure for malaria within the traditional Chinese medicine. Project 523 (as it began on May 23) began its search for a cure in 1967. It was officially shut down in 1981.

Cô phải đi học nghề và sau đó làm kế toán cho hợp tác xã với cái bằng trung cấp.

Air America

Chào các bạn,

Hôm trước tình cờ gặp một người bạn mới, 76 tuổi. Anh này trong thời chiến tranh Việt Mỹ làm phi công cho Air America, hãng máy bay “dân sự” do CIA làm chủ. Hãng này có từ năm 1950 dưới tên Civil Air Transport (CAT) hoạt động ở Trung Quốc và bán đảo Triều Tiên.

Sau đó hỗ trợ quân đội Pháp chống Việt Minh, dù vẫn không cứu được Điện Biên Phủ

Trong thời chiến tranh Việt Mỹ, hoạt động chính là ở Lào, bắt đầu từ năm 1957, đến ngày 26/3/1959 đổi tên là Air America.  AA làm mọi việc cần  làm – cứu phi công Mỹ bị bắn rơi, thả thực phẩm, thuốc men và vũ khí cho người Mèo (H’mong) ở các vùng núi chống lại quân đội Bắc Việt ở Lào, chuyển thuốc phiện của người Mèo cho tướng Vang Pao để giúp người Mèo có tiền sinh sống và tướng Vang Pao có tiền cho quân đội Lào, phần lớn thuốc phiện này lại được đưa vào thị trường VN, vào tay chiến binh Mỹ ở VN.

Air America là siêu bí mật trong thời chiến tranh, làm những việc không tiện cho quân đội Mỹ làm – như là mọi việc ở Lào để Mỹ không bị nói là mở rộng chiến tranh sang Lào.

Tháng 4, 1975, hình ảnh chiếc trực thăng cuối cùng rời nóc tòa Đại sứ Mỹ ở Sài Gòn, là trực thăng của Air America.

Năm 1976 Air America bị giải tán, chấm dứt 26 năm hoạt động bí mật.

Các bí mật của Air America chỉ được tiết lộ sau này, do các cựu nhân viên của công ty.
