I am an attorney in the Washington DC area, with a Doctor of Law in the US, attended the master program at the National School of Administration of Việt Nam, and graduated from Sài Gòn University Law School. I aso studied philosophy at the School of Letters in Sài Gòn. . I have worked as an anti-trust attorney for Federal Trade Commission and a litigator for a fortune-100 telecom company in Washington DC. I have taught law courses for legal professionals in Việt Nam and still counsel VN government agencies on legal matters. I have founded and managed businesses for me and my family, both law and non-law. I have published many articles on national newspapers and radio stations in Việt Nam. In 1989 I was one of the founding members of US-VN Trade Council, working to re-establish US-VN relationship. Since the early 90's, I have established and managed VNFORUM and VNBIZ forum on VN-related matters; these forums are the subject of a PhD thesis by Dr. Caroline Valverde at UC-Berkeley and her book Transnationalizing Viet Nam. I translate poetry and my translation of "A Request at Đồng Lộc Cemetery" is now engraved on a stone memorial at Đồng Lộc National Shrine in VN. I study and teach the Bible and Buddhism. In 2009 I founded and still manage dotchuoinon.com on positive thinking and two other blogs on Buddhism. In 2015 a group of friends and I founded website CVD - Conversations on Vietnam Development (cvdvn.net). I study the art of leadership with many friends who are religious, business and government leaders from many countries. Fifty years ago today, November 2, 2015, at about 5:20 p.m., a 31-year-old Quaker named Norman Morrison immolated himself 40 feet from the window of US Secretary of War Robert McNamara’s office at the Pentagon. I was a law student in Washington, DC at the time.

Most US Americans know little of our nation’s history and seldom reflect on the moral issues relating to its genocidal origins and imperial nature. And, it seems, they avoid at all costs reflection on anything that may produce “negative” feelings (i.e., the truth). Hai Lang District, Quang Tri Province – 30 October 2015

The O Lau River flows through Hai Lang District in Quang Tri Province.  Along its banks is historic Luong Dien Village, one of the oldest villages in the province. In 1508, people migrating from Tonkin settled in this area and founded a small village named Ke Lang.  Called Luong Phuc in the 18th century, the village was chosen by the Nguyen Lords as the location to be their headquarters and army base for their conquest of the south. Luong Phuc was again renamed as Luong Dien in 1804; two years after Emperor Gia Long – the first king of the Nguyen Dynasty – ascended the throne. For the first time in anyone’s memory, foreign policy and national security are poised to figure as major issues in the Philippine presidential election, scheduled for May 2016. Recent polls show Filipinos are worried about China and its aggressive stance in the South China Sea. They also fear that economic dependence on China could be leveraged to force concessions on the Philippines’ sovereignty. These are not unreasonable views, given that Chinese vessels now occupy Scarborough Shoal, just 140 miles from the Philippines’ northern Luzon Island, and that China’s nine-dash line nearly intersects with the Philippines’ Palawan Province. Washington (CNN): The United States sent a warship very close to one of China’s artificial islands in the South China Sea on Tuesday, a potential challenge to Beijing’s territorial claims in the contested waters.

Phóng viên Donald Lancaster, người ở Sài Gòn đã và chứng kiến biến cố ồn ào 1955 này, ghi nhận như sau “ Bởi vì Bảo Đại không có cơ hội tự biện hộ cho nên hệ truyền thông và báo chí do chính phủ kiểm sóat đã tha hồ nhục mạ ông.” Lancaster viết “ Diệm thích đánh bại kẻ thù hơn là nói chuyện với kẻ thù, ” và ông kết luận rằng điều này trước mắt đem lại sự ổn định tạm thời cho vùng nông thôn. Tuy nhiên ông hàm ý rằng thái độ đàn áp của Ô. Diệm tạo nên một sự yên bình nho nhỏ trong điều kiện tốt nhất, nhưng không hé mở một chi tiết nào về tương lai chính trị lâu dài của Miền Nam.

Chào các bạn,

“Trôi dạt dòng đời” là tiều thuyết luận đề, bắt đầu câu truyện có lẽ từ những năm đầu thế kỷ 20 và kéo dài đến những năm đầu của thập niên 1960. nói về truyền thống văn hóa cổ của Việt Nam (Khổng, Phật, Lão), với văn hóa mới Công giáo, và tư tưởng Mác Lê cùng cuộc cách mạnh Cộng sản. Các nhân vật của các tiểu thuyết luận đề thường là nhân vật tổng hợp, và các sự kiện cũng thường là sự kiện tổng hợp, nhưng là tổng hợp của những nhân vật và sự kiện có thật.

Vì vậy, các tiểu thuyết luận đề có thể xem là những phân tích lịch sử dưới dạng một tiểu thuyết.

Tác giả là bạn của mình, có thạc sĩ Triết, là người đáng tin. Các thu gọn của bạn về các hiện tượng lịch sử, tôn giáo, chính trị ở đây, mình đồng ý là khá chính xác và công bình. Và mình cũng thán phục tác giả đã có cái nhìn rất trung thực và nghiêm khắc đối với Công giáo, bằng những biểu tượng nói đến sự mục nát của giáo hội Công giáo VN, dù chính bạn là người Công giáo. Tuy vậy, bạn cũng thấy được ánh sáng của Thánh linh Chúa trong giới tạm gọi là “dòng phụ” hay “đạo theo”, không phải là dòng chính. Mình cũng đồng ý về điểm này, vì chính mình thấy điều đó. On Tuesday local Quang Tri residents made two urgent phone calls to Project RENEW’s hotline to report their discovery of wartime ordnance, and to ask for assistance.

35-year-old Hoang Van Ty, a villager in Trieu Van Commune of Trieu Phong District, was preparing land to build a temple in the village cemetery when he encountered unexploded ordnance (UXO).  He reported the discovery immediately to commune military officer Nguyen Van Lam, who used his mobile phone to call to Project RENEW. Paul Kengor is professor of political science at Grove City College. He writes about Margaret Sanger in his latest book, “Takedown: From Communists to Progressives, How the Left Has Sabotaged Family and Marriage.”

On June 26, 2015, four of the Supreme Court’s liberals joined Justice Anthony Kennedy in discovering a new right to same-sex marriage in the U.S. Constitution, one thereby imposed upon all 50 states.

In response, of course, liberals were jubilant. Their leader, the one who promised to fundamentally transform America, responded by literally illuminating the nation’s house in rainbow colors.

Americans saw all of that. They saw the pictures of their fundamentally transformed White House; they saw other culture-transformers dancing in the streets joyously rejecting what a great country once called the laws of nature and nature’s God. As a nod to the 40th anniversary of the end of the war with the Americans: T.N. recommends a novel dealing with the post-war diaspora — “The Sympathizer” — by Vietnamese-American writer and teacher, Viet Thanh Nguyen at USC.

The problem we highlight in this issue is the decision by the government of Ha Noi to cut down 6,700 trees. People protest and save most of them; on the other hand, city government fails to account to its citizens the who, what, why … of this policy, and to date no one has yet taken the responsibility for it.

May là dân chúng khắp nước phản ứng kịp thời và mạnh mẽ nên đa số các cây này còn đứng trụ vững chãi; tuy nhiên lãnh đạo TP HN vẫn chưa giải thích thỏa đáng, cũng như chưa thấy ai lãnh trách nhiệm về quyết định này.
