PHÚ YÊN — A hydropower plant in the central province of Phú Yên that opened its floodgates without warning caused the death of four students in the downstream area earlier this week, officials reported.

The man-made flood in the current dry season was characterised as “unseen in 40 years” by Cao Minh Hoà, deputy secretary of Sơn Hoà District’s Party Committee.

QUẢNG BÌNH — A resident of central Quảng Bình Province has discovered thousands of human bone pieces that are believed to be of the victims of massacres by the French colonists.  The resident was digging the ground for building a home foundation.

Dương Văn Phong, a resident of Ba Đồn District’s Quảng Thọ Ward, said he started digging the soil on May 19 and kept finding human bones underground since then. Scientists use bacteria to speed up growth of ginseng roots

VietNamNet Bridge – The scientists from the HCM Biotechnology Center have succeeded in using Agrobacterium rhizogenes bacteria to create hairy roots of Ngoc Linh ginseng (Panax vietnamensis Ha et Grushv) which contains active saponin.

A seafood company has been discovered backfilling some 5.3 hectares of sea along the coast of Kien Giang Province, in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, for a construction without any consent from local authorities.

How many red-shanked doucs are left on Vietnam’s Son Tra peninsula?

While a recent independent study claimed that there are still over 1,300 red-shank doucs on central Vietnam’s Son Tra peninsula, primate experts believe the number to be much lower.

Red-shanked doucs are monkey-sized primates characterized by their golden face, black hands and feet, and maroon-red ‘stockings’ from their knees to their ankles.

QUẢNG TRỊ — The first wind power plant in the central province of Quảng Trị has begun contributing electricity to the national power grid, a positive sign for the future of green energy development.This is the first wind power plant in the northern part of the central region of Việt Nam.
