Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is now the president of the Philippines, 36 years after he fled the country along with his dictator father. Marcos took the oath of office today at a muted ceremony in Manila, urging citizens to look ahead to the future, as his mother, Imelda, looked on.

Marcos, known in the Philippines by his nickname Bongbong, has risen to the country’s highest office after a social media-driven campaign helped to rehabilitate his family’s image, transforming memories of the bloody days of martial law, when thousands were tortured and killed, to a nostalgic golden era.

TTCT – Các quốc gia Đông Nam Á xung quanh khu vực Biển Đông đều đã chuẩn bị cho một tương lai mới, dự kiến sẽ bất trắc hơn.

Theo Công ty tài chính PricewaterhouseCoopers thì năm 2030, 5 cường quốc đứng đầu thế giới về kinh tế sẽ xếp hạng như sau: Trung Quốc, Hoa Kỳ, Ấn Độ và Nhật Bản là 4 nước đầu. Đây là chuyện dễ hiểu. Nước thứ 6 là Nga. Vậy nước thứ 5 là nước nào? Anh hay Đức? Pháp hay Brazil, Mexico? Hàn Quốc? Năm 2030, nếu mọi chuyện đúng dự đoán, cường quốc kinh tế hạng 5 thế giới sẽ là Indonesia.

Trong khi chờ đợi ngày vinh quang xa vời ấy, hiện tính GDP theo mãi lực tương đương (PPP) thì Indonesia mới đứng hàng thứ 7 (IMF 2019). Tính theo danh nghĩa thì Indonesia hàng 16 với GDP là 1.210 tỉ đôla, hơn 4 lần Việt Nam.

GENEVA (Reuters) – More than two dozen countries formally called for a U.N. investigation into thousands of killings in Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs, activists said.

The Philippines on Wednesday condemned the “cowardly action” of a suspected Chinese fishing vessel accused of abandoning a Filipino fishing crew after a collision in the East Vietnam Sea, while thanking a Vietnamese ship for coming to the fishermen’s aid.

The Chinese ship on Sunday hit a Filipino craft anchored near Reed Bank causing it to sink and leaving 22 crewmen “to the mercy of the elements,” Philippine defense secretary Delfin Lorenzana was quoted by AFP as saying in a statement on Wednesday. (TBKTSG Online) – Cuộc vận động đánh thuế đồ uống có đường đang lan tỏa khắp Đông Nam Á trong nỗ lực bảo vệ sức khỏe người tiêu dùng trước các căn bệnh đái thái đường, béo phì. Thái Lan, Brunei, Philippines đã áp thuế này và sắp tới Singapore và Malaysia có thể theo chân, theo tờ Nikkei Asian Review.

Singapore, Malaysia muốn đánh thuế nước ngọt

Azlan Sohoni, một người dân Singapore 47 tuổi, bắt đầu mỗi ngày với ly sôcôla sữa được khuấy với 1,5 muỗng đường. Tại nơi làm việc, anh uống thêm 5 lon Coca-Cola và vài ly sôcôla tương tự nữa.

Sohoni nói: “Tôi biết uống quá nhiều đồ ngọt không tốt cho sức khỏe nhưng tôi đã quen uống kiểu như vậy rồi”.

On February 4, Philippine defense secretary Delfin Lorenzana announced that construction of a new beaching ramp at Thitu Island would be completed in early 2019. Thitu is the largest of the nine features occupied by the Philippines in the Spratlys Islands and is home to about 100 civilians along with a small military garrison. The ramp, which was originally scheduled for completion in 2018, will facilitate the delivery of construction equipment and materials to the island for further planned upgrades, especially to its crumbling runway. AMTI previously tracked the start of repair work on the runway in May 2018, but that appears to have been halted while the beaching ramp is completed. Thâm Quyến được coi là ví dụ tiêu biểu nhất về áp dụng thành công mô hình đặc khu kinh tế. Thành phố này có vị trí chiến lược tại Quảng Đông, nằm tại lưu vực sông Châu Giang, gần Hong Kong, Macau và là cửa ngõ vào Trung Quốc.

Bản ghi nhớ hợp tác dầu khí Philippines – Trung Quốc được hai bộ trưởng ngoại giao Teodoro Locsin của Philippines và Vương Nghị của Trung Quốc ký kết trong sự chứng kiến của hai nhà lãnh đạo Rodrigo Duterte – Tập Cận Bình nhân chuyến công du Philippines của ông Tập.

Đến thời kì “làn sóng nữ quyền lần thứ hai” trỗi dậy vào giữa những năm 1960 đến cuối những năm 1980, những nhà sử học theo chủ nghĩa nữ quyền đã khôi phục lại tên của vô vàn những người phụ nữ vĩ đại trong quá khứ, bao gồm các nhà khoa học và phát minh nữ. Những học giả này đã thách thức các định kiến giới trong những trang sử của hàng thế kỉ đã xóa đi những đóng góp của người phụ nữ trong rất nhiều lĩnh vực bởi các nhà sử học nam.

For anyone who has spent time in the Philippines, you can probably relate to the frustration over the country’s poor road and transportation infrastructure. Whether in metro Manila, where an average commuter spends more than an hour stuck in traffic jams or about three hours commuting to and from work, or in the countryside, where paved roads end abruptly leaving a bumpy, grueling drive ahead, the infrastructure problem is omnipresent.

In the World Economic Forum’s latest Global Competitiveness Index, the Philippines ranked 56th out of 137 countries. Despite moving up a notch from the previous year, the country still fell behind six of its ASEAN neighbors. One of the biggest impediments is a lack of investment in infrastructure: the index puts the Philippines 90th in terms of infrastructure ranking and warns that this is significantly undermining the country’s ability to compete globally.
