Japanese NGO assists Vietnamese farmers in producing safe greens

Environmentally conscious farmers in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre are eagerly adopting a Japanese-sponsored model of producing safe greens to ensure a sustainable livelihood for locals.

Over the past six months, specialists from the Japanese non-profit Seed to Table have been wholeheartedly helping farmers in An Hoa Tay Commune in Binh Dai District make the switch to organic farming and animal husbandry.

The NGO, with sponsorship from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is dedicated to the promotion of eco-friendly agricultural practices as a means of supporting community development in Vietnam, according to its website. Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Japan has become the largest market for Vietnamese shrimps, accounting for 21.9 per cent of the country’s shrimp export value in the first quarter of 2017.

The Việt Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) reported that in the first three months of this year, Việt Nam’s shrimp exports to Japan reached US$135.4 million, a year-on-year increase of 29.6 per cent. BANGKOK, May 10 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) – Generosa Gonato’s mobile phone beeped with a warning for the coconut farmer in the southern Philippines to be vigilant against bud rot, a common disease that is fatal for coconut trees. The message included the symptoms and how to treat it.

“So I monitored my trees and discovered some have it,” Gonato told the Thomson Reuters Foundation by phone. At large supermarket chains such as Big C and Vinmart, apples and pears from the US and France are quoted at a low VND40,000-90,000 per kilo.

The administration of Quang Binh Province in north-central Vietnam has inked deals with Japanese businesses from Hyogo Prefecture to fast-forward investment in a Japanese-style cow farm in the province.

Construction of Masan’s $44mn pig farm ceases in central Vietnam

The pig farm developed by Masan Nutri – Farm Company, a Masan Group subsidiary, is being built in the north-central Vietnamese province of Nghe An.

The construction of a VND1 trillion (US$44.2 million) pig farm being built by Vietnamese food producer Masan Group has been suspended in the north-central province of Nghe An due to a lack of legitimate paperwork.

Following a directive from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Nghe An People’s Committee on Wednesday ordered that construction on the project be ceased.
