VietNamNet Bridge – The average price for imported pork is now $1.2 per kilo, or VND27,000, while the domestic pork price has dropped dramatically to a 30-year low.

According to GDC, by mid-March, Vietnam had imported 7,800 tons of pork of different kinds, worth $9.4 million. The figure represented a 16 percent increase in quantity and 21 percent in value compared with the same period last year.

The administration of Quang Binh Province in north-central Vietnam has inked deals with Japanese businesses from Hyogo Prefecture to fast-forward investment in a Japanese-style cow farm in the province.

The pig farm developed by Masan Nutri – Farm Company, a Masan Group subsidiary, is being built in the north-central Vietnamese province of Nghe An.

The construction of a VND1 trillion (US$44.2 million) pig farm being built by Vietnamese food producer Masan Group has been suspended in the north-central province of Nghe An due to a lack of legitimate paperwork.

Following a directive from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Nghe An People’s Committee on Wednesday ordered that construction on the project be ceased.

HÀ NỘI — Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyễn Xuân Cường has submitted a variety of potential solutions to Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc to help the struggling pig-farming industry recover.

The move comes after the price of live pigs kept falling, dropping to VNĐ30,000 (US$1.32) per kilo in recent months. HÀ NỘI — Four provinces in Việt Nam have reported six outbreaks of bird flu, according to the Department of Animal Health.The provinces affected are Vĩnh Long, Đăk Lắk, Quảng Ninh and Thừa Thiên-Huế.

An outbreak was detected in the southern province of Vĩnh Long on Saturday at a household in Bình Tân District’s Mỹ Thuận Commune which affected 300 chicken.

More than 3,000 chicken also tested positive for A/H5N1and were disposed of at a farm in the province’s Bình Minh Town.

VietNamNet Bridge – Imported meat available at nearly all large supermarkets in Hanoi is surprisingly cheap, posing a threat to the domestic livestock industry.

Brazilian frozen chicken wings were sold at VND74,900 per kilo at Metro Thang Long on March 27. Two months ago, in January 2017, the supermarket sold frozen chicken imports from Brazil at VND51,000 per kilo only.

A supermarket on Trang Dang Ninh street once quoted the price of VND86,900 per kilo for Brazilian chicken wings.

Analysts, after comparing retail prices quoted by supermarkets and import prices provided by customs agencies, came to the conclusion that the price difference is not too big, between VND30,000 and VND50,000 per kilo.

Meanwhile, on online markets, Brazilian meat is offered at the price just equal to one-third of the prices of imports from the US and Australia.

An officer at a clean food distribution company in Dong An district said the selling price is VND145,000 per kilo of beef shank for a 20-kilo box from Brazil, while brisket beef is VND130,000 per kilo.

Meanwhile, a shop in Dong Da district quotes the price of VND170,000 per kilo for Brazilian beef.

The world’s most widely used herbicide, Roundup, has faced intense scrutiny in recent weeks, since documents surfaced revealing a close relationship between Monsanto, the creator of Roundup, and EPA officials tasked with regulating herbicide use in the United States. VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam, the second largest rice exporter in the world, is facing big challenges. The income of farmers has dropped by seven times in the last 10 years, while exports face barriers set by import countries.

With the output of 4 million tons, An Giang is the biggest rice producer among 13 provinces in Mekong Delta. Despite great efforts made by the provincial authorities and farmers and new production models, rice production there is still in fragmented. And while the output is high, the quality is low.

This is the common situation of rice production in the Mekong Delta which now produces 90 percent of total rice exports of Vietnam. Vietnam imports tons of carbendazim, a carcinogen

VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam imports 2,000 tons per annum of Carbendazim, a toxic substance believed to cause cancer.

A report from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released in September 2015 showed that Carbendazim is listed in the C group, substances which can cause cancer. In other countries, Carbendazim is prohibited as it is considered plant protection chemical which has latent high risks to the environment and human health.In 1992, research found that Carbendazim and its derivative Benomyl have had negative impact on those people who have contact with Benomyl (headache, diarrhea and sexual dysfunction) in Florida in the US.

In 2013, the scientists from California Univesrity found the relation between Parkinson and the pesticide with Benomyl, a derivative of Carbendazim.

In Europe, Carbendazim is found in the list of chemicals which have impacts on human’s endocrine function released by the EC in 1999. It can disrupt the development of sperm and testicular damage in adult mice, thus leading to to infertility.

Carbendazim is a very dangerous chemical which causes cancer and birth defects. The organization always believes that it is necessary to prohibit Carbendazim.

PAN (Pesticide Action Network), a network of 600 non-government organizations, research institutes and individuals from more than 90 countries who work for the purpose of replacing risky pesticides with environmentally friendly substances, also pointed out that Carbendazim is a very dangerous chemical which causes cancer and birth defects. The organization always believes that it is necessary to prohibit Carbendazim.
