Hai vị trí được cân nhắc đặt nhà máy Nhiệt điện Long An nằm sát khu đô thị cảng Hiệp Phước

Bộ Công Thương ra thông cáo rằng sẽ “chỉ duyệt Nhiệt điện Long An khi đáp ứng yêu cầu” trong lúc chuyên gia bình luận với BBC rằng “đó chỉ là một cách trấn an”.

Trung tâm Điện lực Long An được đầu tư khoảng 5 tỷ đôla, đề xuất xây dựng ở Long An, gần biển Cần Giờ khiến người dân TP Hồ Chí Minh quan ngại về nguy cơ ô nhiễm.

Residents in Hiep Phu ward in district 9 have complained for many years about the bad odor from Binh Tho Canal, which badly affects their daily life.

Nguyen Thi Tiem, a local resident, said she has to close the door and windows all day to prevent the bad odor.

The canal, two kilometers long, originating from district 9 in HCMC, is a ‘hot spot’ for pollution. The canal brings garbage and pollution from residential quarters to the Sai Gon River.

   Theo Quy hoạch phát triển điện lực quốc gia giai đoạn 2011-2020 có xét đến năm 2030 (Quy hoạch điện VII điều chỉnh), một loạt các nhà máy điện than sẽ được xây dựng ở đồng bằng sông Cửu Long (ĐBSCL). Xoay quanh vấn đề quy hoạch phát triển nhiệt điện than tại khu vực này, đã có nhiều nghi ngại về những tiềm ẩn rủi ro.

 Công bố tại tọa đàm “Lựa chọn nào cho phát triển năng lượng ở Việt Nam” vừa qua, báo cáo của Trung tâm phát triển sáng tạo xanh (GreenID) đã có những phân tích rõ nét về vấn đề này.

Viet Nam News LÀO CAI — Authorities have confirmed emissions from Tứ Đỉnh Joint Stock Company’s metallurgy plant are destroying around 200 hectares of pineapple and other crops in the northern Lào Cai Province’s Mường Khương District.

Rubbish has turned into a perennial problem in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta as current waste treatment projects barely meet the rising demand from rapid urbanization.

A bauxite megaproject in Vietnam’s Central Highlands has been making losses totaling VND3,696 billion (US$165 million) in the last three years, but the developer is unconcerned, believing that it will start generating profits in 2017.

Vietnam currently has two major bauxite mining projects, Nhan Co in Dak Nong Province and Tan Rai in Lam Dong Province, both developed by Vinacomin, the country’s state-run coal and minerals giant.

Bauxite, an aluminum ore, is the world’s main source of aluminum.

Vietnam needs assistance from foreign scientists in its efforts to protect the environment, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha remarked at an international conference on environmental pollution, restoration, and management on Wednesday.

Speaking to more than 200 experts from 25 nations and territories in Quy Nhon City, the capital of the south-central province of Binh Dinh, Minister Ha confirmed that Vietnam faces many environmental challenges, including rising pollution, decreasing biodiversity, limitations to environmental management, lack of forecasting capability, and insufficient resources to deal with environmental incidents. HÀ NỘI — All lakes in the inner city and 36 of the 140 polluted lakes on the outskirts have been cleaned, the Hà Nội Water Drainage Company said on Wednesday.

Of the 36 lakes, 14 are in Đông Anh District, six are in Thạch Thất District and six are in Ba Vì District, said Phan Hoài Minh, deputy director of the company. The remaining ones are in Chương Mỹ, Gia Lâm, Sơn Tây, Thanh Oai, Ứng Hòa and Mê Linh districts.

Minh said that in 2016, following proposals submitted by district and town authorities, the company assessed the pollution level of 150 lakes on the outskirts of the capital city. HANOI: Vietnam said on Wednesday (Feb 22) it will punish 11 senior officials for misconduct over a toxic waste dump last year that killed tonnes of fish in one of the country’s worst environmental disasters.

Taiwanese steel firm Formosa was blamed for the crisis that decimated livelihoods in coastal fishing communities in central Vietnam and was forced to pay $500 million in fines.
