The ACLU is worried about a Kafka-esque near future where police and other government agencies harness the power of facial recognition technologyto identify undocumented migrants, minority activists or individuals joining public protests. As such, the organization is demanding that online retail giant Amazon stop selling “dangerous” face recognition technology to law enforcement, which could potentially help police identify individuals from footage gathered from a variety of sources, including surveillance cameras in public and retail establishments, as well as from police body cameras.

A scandal over an academic’s use of Facebook data highlights the need for research scrutiny.
Revelations keep emerging in the Cambridge Analytica personal-data scandal, which has captured global public attention for more than a week. But when the dust settles, researchers harvesting data online will face greater scrutiny. And so they should.
At the centre of the controversy is Aleksandr Kogan, a psychologist and neuroscientist at the University of Cambridge, UK. In 2014, he recruited people to complete a number of surveys and sign up to an app that handed over Facebook information on themselves — and tens of millions of Facebook friends. Kogan passed the data to SCL, a UK firm that later founded controversial political-consultancy firm Cambridge Analytica in London. (All those involved deny any wrongdoing.) Theo đó, Cục phát thanh, truyền hình và Thông tin điện tử yêu cầu các doanh nghiệp cung cấp dịch vụ trò chơi điện tử trên mạng tuân thủ các quy định sau:
– Thực hiện nghiêm các quy định về tài sản ảo, điểm thưởng trong trò chơi theo quy định tại Thông tư 24/2014/TT-BTTTT và tuyệt đối không được đổi thưởng, đổi tài sản ảo ra tiền mặt và các hiện vật có giá trị;
– Do hiện nay căn cứ pháp lý hướng dẫn việc thanh toán bằng thẻ thanh toán dịch vụ viễn thông (thẻ cào điện thoại) chưa rõ ràng nên các doanh nghiệp cung cấp dịch vụ cần thận trọng khi sử dụng hình thức thanh toán này;
– Thực hiện nghiêm các quy định của pháp luật về trò chơi điện tử trên mạng, rà soát, đảm bảo phát hành các trò chơi theo đúng nội dung, kịch bản đã được phê duyệt;
– Chấm dứt việc phát hành trò chơi chưa được cấp quyết định phê duyệt nội dung kịch bản;
– Thực hiện nghiêm chế độ báo cáo định kỳ theo quy định tại điểm b khoản 2 Điều 11 Thông tư 24.

U.S. national security officials said the FBI, the Homeland Security Department and American intelligence agencies determined that Russian intelligence and others were behind the attacks on the energy sector. The officials said the Russians deliberately chose U.S. energy industry targets, obtaining access to computer systems and then conducting “network reconnaissance” of industrial control systems that run American factories and the electricity grid. Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security (MoPS) thinks it is killing two birds with one stone by passing new laws regulating data storage. But it could soon find out it has no use for two dead birds while the stone flies off and damages the economy.
In June 2017, the MoPS proposed a draft cybersecurity law that requires all foreign online service providers (including Facebook, Google and Twitter) to store their Vietnamese users’ data exclusively in Vietnamese data centres — a practice known as ‘data localisation’. Foreign tech firms would likely have Vietnamese partners run their local data centres, manage domestic service sales and handle government requests for user data. The proposal has sparked a heated debate between those who believe in its benefits and those who warn against its serious threats to economic development.
