Unscrupulous companies often make unsubstantiated and sometimes false claims about their products and tend to prefer uninformed consumers. Conversely, reputable ones provide accurate information and call on their customers to educate themselves about what they are selling—even encouraging them to engage in comparison shopping. In fact, one wellknown US discount clothing company has adopted this concept as its slogan: “An Educated Consumer Is Our Best Customer.” Tiếp tục đọc “US Institutions find fertile ground in Vietnam’s expanding higher education market”

The Science, Education and Environment Advisory Council, at a recent conference on post-graduate training and talent development, pointed out a number of problems in higher education and academic research.

While the number of research works is high, the quality is low and the results cannot be applied in real life. The number of internationally published articles remains modest, especially in social sciences. Tiếp tục đọc “Modest level of research: weakness of Vietnam’s universities”

Cách mạng bền vững: ba xu hướng trường đại học và sinh viên toàn cầu đang thực hiện

English: Three ways Universities and their students are revolutionalizing Sustainability

Universities and students are revolutionalizing Sustainability

worldwatch_As leaders of knowledge and innovation, universities are places where sustainable futures are imagined. They are institutions where experts research emerging issues and generate new ideas. They contain multitudes of idealistic and adaptive young students who can be mobilized to protect their futures. It is only natural that some of the most progressive sustainability ideas are emerging from universities.

Universities around the world are striving to curb their wasteful tendencies as well as to foster an atmosphere that encourages environmental consciousness. Here are three areas of campus life that universities have sought to make greener:

  1. Fostering sustainable lifestyles through transportation initiatives

One of the most pressing issues pertaining to environmental sustainability at universities is transportation. A 2011 study by Complete College America reports that 75 percent of all college students in the United States commute to campus, often traveling by car, bus, and other carbon-emitting vehicles. Overall, the transportation sector is one of the country’s highest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions.

Mình tham dự của GS Richard Felder, North Carolina State University.

What Happened When England Offered ‘Free’ College

Daily Signal

In England, “free college” policies resulted in the wealthiest students receiving a disproportionate share of government subsidies. (Photo: iStock Photos)

Proponents of “free college” would have you believe that getting rid of tuition fees is all it takes to create a high-quality, equitable, and accessible higher education system.

But a recent study indicates that in England, removing tuition fees from students achieved the exact opposite result. “Free” college in fact created a system where the wealthy benefited, and the poor were left behind. Tiếp tục đọc “What Happened When England Offered ‘Free’ College”

Duc, whose parents took second jobs so he could be the only one of three children to attend college, is among thousands of Vietnamese college graduates who can’t land jobs in their chosen field, even though the nation’s unemployment rate is just 2.3 percent.
