I am an attorney in the Washington DC area, with a Doctor of Law in the US, attended the master program at the National School of Administration of Việt Nam, and graduated from Sài Gòn University Law School. I aso studied philosophy at the School of Letters in Sài Gòn. . I have worked as an anti-trust attorney for Federal Trade Commission and a litigator for a fortune-100 telecom company in Washington DC. I have taught law courses for legal professionals in Việt Nam and still counsel VN government agencies on legal matters. I have founded and managed businesses for me and my family, both law and non-law. I have published many articles on national newspapers and radio stations in Việt Nam. In 1989 I was one of the founding members of US-VN Trade Council, working to re-establish US-VN relationship. Since the early 90's, I have established and managed VNFORUM and VNBIZ forum on VN-related matters; these forums are the subject of a PhD thesis by Dr. Caroline Valverde at UC-Berkeley and her book Transnationalizing Viet Nam. I translate poetry and my translation of "A Request at Đồng Lộc Cemetery" is now engraved on a stone memorial at Đồng Lộc National Shrine in VN. I study and teach the Bible and Buddhism. In 2009 I founded and still manage dotchuoinon.com on positive thinking and two other blogs on Buddhism. In 2015 a group of friends and I founded website CVD - Conversations on Vietnam Development (cvdvn.net). I study the art of leadership with many friends who are religious, business and government leaders from many countries. According to Nguyen Van Thuy, director of the Environment Monitoring Center, besides domestic polluting sources, Vietnam is facing cross-border pollution as it is located next to countries with strong production such as China.

Thuy said Vietnam also bears influences from territories relatively far away from Vietnam. In winter, when the northeast monsoon comes down to the north, the pollutants from China are brought to Vietnam.

Water supplier says Chinese pipes safe amidst health concern

Saigon Water Corporation (Sawaco), a major water supplier in Ho Chi Minh City, has reassured citizens that its ductile iron water pipes provided by Chinese firms pose no threat to public health.

The announcement came at the request of the municipal administration, which had earlier received a letter from a man who claimed to be Truong Van Hai, a former Sawaco official.

In his letter sent to multiple agencies in Ho Chi Minh City, Hai suggested that Chinese-made water pipes used by Sawaco were made from ductile cast iron that had been recycled from waste products, unexploded ordnance and expired weapons that could affect the water quality. A prolonged deluge early in the rainy season swept through Ho Chi Minh City, resulting in severe flooding in many locations on Saturday, the second time this week.

The two-hour-long downpour caused congestion and inundation in various areas in the southern Vietnamese hub.

Japan’s JS Izumo 183 is docked at Cam Ranh Port in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam.

One vessel of the U.S. navy and two ships of the Japanese self-defense forces arrived at Cam Ranh Port in south-central Vietnam on Saturday afternoon for activities to accelerate cooperation in the region.

Sidewalks in Ho Chi Minh City are once again in disorder as the initiator of the sidewalk clearance movement says he is not allowed to continue leading the campaign.

Locals complain vendors and business owners have re-occupied the sidewalks after seeing inaction from city authorities over the past few weeks.

ĐÀ NĂNG — After 18 months of construction, Đà Nẵng International Airport officially launched its new terminal at a ceremony held yesterday.

The project is a key part of preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) Summit, which will be hosted in the city this November.

A teacher in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta believed that leaking questions of a final examination to the son of a neighbor who has greatly supported him in life is the best way to pay his gratitude forward.

On May 9, eleventh graders at schools across Dong Thap Province were ready to sit for their math and history final tests when they were informed that the exams were canceled in the last minutes as the questions had been leaked online the night before.

Locals loot truck after crash that kills two in northern Vietnam

The only survivor in a recent truck accident that claimed two lives in the northern province of Hoa Binh was left speechless seeing locals rush out to loot products on the vehicle, instead of helping them.

A truck was transporting rice bran on the National Highway 6 in Quy Hau Commune in Tan Lac District at around 1:45 am on Thursday when the driver lost control and crashed into a mountain.

Only one of the three people in the cabin survived the crash, albeit with multiple injuries.
