I am an attorney in the Washington DC area, with a Doctor of Law in the US, attended the master program at the National School of Administration of Việt Nam, and graduated from Sài Gòn University Law School. I aso studied philosophy at the School of Letters in Sài Gòn. . I have worked as an anti-trust attorney for Federal Trade Commission and a litigator for a fortune-100 telecom company in Washington DC. I have taught law courses for legal professionals in Việt Nam and still counsel VN government agencies on legal matters. I have founded and managed businesses for me and my family, both law and non-law. I have published many articles on national newspapers and radio stations in Việt Nam. In 1989 I was one of the founding members of US-VN Trade Council, working to re-establish US-VN relationship. Since the early 90's, I have established and managed VNFORUM and VNBIZ forum on VN-related matters; these forums are the subject of a PhD thesis by Dr. Caroline Valverde at UC-Berkeley and her book Transnationalizing Viet Nam. I translate poetry and my translation of "A Request at Đồng Lộc Cemetery" is now engraved on a stone memorial at Đồng Lộc National Shrine in VN. I study and teach the Bible and Buddhism. In 2009 I founded and still manage dotchuoinon.com on positive thinking and two other blogs on Buddhism. In 2015 a group of friends and I founded website CVD - Conversations on Vietnam Development (cvdvn.net). I study the art of leadership with many friends who are religious, business and government leaders from many countries. I have written these books, published by Phu Nu Publishing House in Hanoi: "Positive Thinking to Change Your Life", in Vietnamese (TƯ DUY TÍCH CỰC Thay Đổi Cuộc Sống) (Oct. 2011) "10 Core Values for Success" (10 Giá trị cốt lõi của thành công) (Dec. 2013) "Live a Life Worth Living" (Sống Một Cuộc Đời Đáng Sống) (Oct. 2023) I practice Jiu Jitsu and Tai Chi for health, and play guitar as a hobby, usually accompanying my wife Trần Lê Túy Phượng, aka singer Linh Phượng.

HÀ TĨNH – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has raised concerns over the controversial Thạch Khê Iron Ore Mine in central Hà Tĩnh Province, saying the mine should not restart operations due to environmental risks.

Hoàng Văn Thức, deputy head of the ministry’s Việt Nam Environment Administration said the ministry shared the concerns of the provincial authority. Trong cả đời mình cho đến lúc này, mình thấy có một hiện tượng trong giới trí thức, đó là: Trí thức thì phải đối lập với chính quyền. Đi ngược lại lịch sử một chút, các phong trào chống Pháp như Cần Vương, Văn Thân, rồi Đông Du, đều là của giới trí thức chống lại chính quyền cai trị. Nối tiếp là Việt Minh và sau này là Việt Nam Dân chủ Cộng hòa, rồi Cộng hòa Xã hội Chủ nghĩa Việt Nam, cũng do trí thức lãnh đạo, chống chính quyền thực dân (rồi chống chính quyền Việt Nam Cộng hòa và Mỹ). Trong khi đó thì ở miền Nam, trí thức thành lập Mặt trận Giải phóng Miền Nam (MTGPMN), được miền Bắc hỗ trợ, chống chính quyền Việt Nam Cộng hòa và Mỹ. Một trong những khuyết điểm của những người Việt học và tốt nghiệp ở nước ngoài là thường thích ca tụng những điều mình học được – điều này thì tốt thôi – nhưng họ cũng thường chê những gì có ở trong nước – điều này thì thường là sai – và có khuynh hướng nói chuyện kiểu cách mạng, tức là muốn đập bỏ cái cũ và lập cái mới đùng đùng.

Trước hết mình cần nói rõ cho các bạn biết thái độ trí thức muốn cách mạng đùng đùng thường là của người ngu, chẳng biết gì cả. Đập hết để làm lại từ đầu. Kiểu Polpot. In an increasingly well-known phenomenon, state-owned and private corporations, as well as private investors of agricultural land have purchased or (where land is not sale-able) acquired long-term leases on large swathes of land for food and biofuel production (Smaller and Mann 2009). These transactions generally involve investors from the United States, the European Union, Arab or wealthy Asian states. The target countries, by contrast, are found in sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, Central and South America, and Eastern European countries in the former USSR (Saturnino et al. 2011; Smaller and Mann 2009).

Chào các bạn,

Ngày nay có một vấn đề cực lớn cho mọi quốc gia, đó là tin giả (fake news) tràn ngập và công nghệ thông tin giúp cho đạo tặc có cách dùng tin giả tài giỏi vượt bậc mà cho đến nay vẫn chưa có cách xử lý thỏa đáng. Và các bạn có đầu óc, người trí thức, cần phải biết vấn đề và tự xử lý cho bạn, vì người trí thức là chất xám cho đất nước. Chúng ta có nghĩa vụ làm chất xám cho đất nước.

Tin giả, tức là tin cố tình sai sự thật. Mình nói “cố tình” là vì đôi khi một ký giả làm việc rất kỹ lưỡng và chuyên nghiệp, nhưng bản tin vẫn có thể có một vài sai sót. Đó là điều thường xảy ra. Khi ký giả có thông tin chính xác hơn, thì thường bổ túc cập nhật bản tin cũ và đôi khi xin lỗi. Nhưng khi người viết tin cố tình viết sai, hay viết thuần túy một chiều (bỏ hẳn chiều kia), thì đó là tin giả, tức là cố ý làm bản tin bị sai sót. Tiếp tục đọc “Tin giả” →

Chinese surveillance technology is being used by Latin American countries for everything from fighting crime to monitoring natural disasters – but critics fear it could be used for darker purposes, too.

Without sufficient checks, the technology could provide authoritarian regimes with “something they have previously only dreamed about: a massive ability to sanction persons who engage in political or social behaviours disapproved of by government”, warns a recent study by the Centre For Strategic and International Studies.
