I am an attorney in the Washington DC area, with a Doctor of Law in the US, attended the master program at the National School of Administration of Việt Nam, and graduated from Sài Gòn University Law School. I aso studied philosophy at the School of Letters in Sài Gòn. . I have worked as an anti-trust attorney for Federal Trade Commission and a litigator for a fortune-100 telecom company in Washington DC. I have taught law courses for legal professionals in Việt Nam and still counsel VN government agencies on legal matters. I have founded and managed businesses for me and my family, both law and non-law. I have published many articles on national newspapers and radio stations in Việt Nam. In 1989 I was one of the founding members of US-VN Trade Council, working to re-establish US-VN relationship. Since the early 90's, I have established and managed VNFORUM and VNBIZ forum on VN-related matters; these forums are the subject of a PhD thesis by Dr. Caroline Valverde at UC-Berkeley and her book Transnationalizing Viet Nam. I translate poetry and my translation of "A Request at Đồng Lộc Cemetery" is now engraved on a stone memorial at Đồng Lộc National Shrine in VN. I study and teach the Bible and Buddhism. In 2009 I founded and still manage dotchuoinon.com on positive thinking and two other blogs on Buddhism. In 2015 a group of friends and I founded website CVD - Conversations on Vietnam Development (cvdvn.net). I study the art of leadership with many friends who are religious, business and government leaders from many countries. Washington (CNN) – Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the US will deny or revoke visas for International Criminal Court staff.

The move is meant to deter a potential investigation by the judicial body into alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by US troops in Afghanistan.

Pompeo, speaking from the State Department Friday, said the restrictions include “persons who take or have taken action to request or further such an investigation.” He said the policy had already taken effect, but declined to say who had been restricted or would face future restrictions. There are 21,400 FIEs in Vietnam

A Ministry of Finance’s (MOF) report presented at a recent working session with Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue showed a high proportion of unprofitable FIEs.

There are 21,400 FIEs, which account for 3 percent of total existing enterprises in Vietnam. FIEs maintained high growth rates in revenue and profits from 2011 to 2017. In 2017 alone, FIEs’ turnover soared by 28 percent compared with the year before, while their asset growth rate reached 22 percent and stockholder equity 14 percent. The Air Force flew a pair of strategic bombers over the South China Sea on Wednesday, marking the second time it has sent the nuclear-capable aircraft to the region in just over a week.

“Two B-52H Stratofortress bombers took off from Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, and conducted routine training in the vicinity of the South China Sea on March 13, 2019 [Hawaii Standard Time], before returning to base,” Pacific Air Forces said in a statement Friday.

On March 4, one B-52 flew over the South China Sea while another circumnavigated Japan in a joint military exercise with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, PACAF said at the time.

That mission was the first reported B-52 flight over the South China Sea since November; however, not all are made public. In the past, Beijing has deemed such flights “provocative,” blaming the U.S. for the tensions between the two countries.

VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese researchers in Australia have announced a discovery which could be a breakthrough in the development of the solar energy industry.

The researchers from the Australian National University (ANU) headed by Dr Nguyen Trong Hieu are the authors of findings which may create a revolution in the industry.

While most research focuses on improving the quality of the core part inside solar cells, Hieu and his co-workers gathered strength on the thin film layer on the top of the cell, which is several thousand times thinner than human hair. Trung Quốc tăng ngân sách quốc phòng

Tại khoá họp đầu tiên trong năm nay, Đại hội đại biểu nhân dân toàn quốc Trung Quốc đã thông qua ngân sách quốc phòng cho năm 2019. Theo đó, chi phí quốc phòng của Trung Quốc cho năm 2019 sẽ tăng 7,5% so với năm 2018, giá trị tuyệt đối là 177,5 tỷ USD trong khi Trung Quốc đề ra mục tiêu về tăng trưởng GDP để phấn đấu là từ 6 đến 6,5%.

Năm 2018, ngân sách quân sự và quốc phòng của Trung Quốc tăng 8,1% so với năm 2017 và tăng trưởng GDP của Trung Quốc là 6,6%. Theo số liệu được phía Trung Quốc chính thức công bố, mức tăng ngân sách quốc phòng của Trung Quốc năm 2017 là 7% so với năm 2016 và cho năm 2016 tăng 7,1% so với năm 2015.

La 22^e Fête de la Francophonie dans le delta du Mékong s’est ouverte les 9 et 10 mars dans la ville de Cân Tho. Il s’agit du plus grand rassemblement annuel de la communauté francophone et francophile de cette région, avec au programme une palette d’activités en écho à la Journée internationale de la Francophonie (20 mars).

Airport Council International (ACI), a non-profit organization representing the world’s airports, has just named Vietnam the number one market on its 10 fastest emerging aviation markets.

Vietnam is expected to see an increase of 7.8%, which can be accounted for in the thriving tourism industry, Vietnam is a prime spot for many travellers. As the demand for electrics refuses to diminish, Vietnam will continue with its growth, with its largest industry being electronics, ACI said.

High cost casts a shadow on solar power

VietNamNet Bridge – Luc Van Tan, a HCM City resident, is considering installing solar power panels on his 35sq.m rooftop to save on electricity bills.

But the initial investment for the panels has made Tan think twice.

It costs between VND25 million (US$1,070) and VND30 million ($1,280) for each 10sq.m panel. That means Tan would have to spend about VND90 million ($3,840).

In spite of the long-term profits solar power brings, many families hesitate to install the panels due to the cost.

Foreign investment in Vietnam is forecast to surge significantly in 2019 as many foreign investors, including big names, are showing their big interest in the country.

Reports from the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment showed that foreign firms registered to invest US$8.47 billion in Vietnam in the first two months of 2019, up 2.5 times against the same period of last year. The firms also disbursed US$2.58 billion in the period, marking a three-year record high for the January-February period.
