VietNamNet Bridge – In 2010, Prime Ministry approved the national programme on developing non-fired construction materials by 2020. United Nations Development Programme in Vietnam and Global Environment Fund have supported efforts to reduce pollution by sponsoring the project of “Accelerating production and use of non-fired bricks”. Việt Nam News’s Khoa Thu talks with UNDP Viet Nam Country Director Caitlin Wiesen on how Vietnam can promote green expenditure in the future.

Non-fired bricks are still new to Vietnam’s market. Why have the UNDP and GEF decided to invest in the project and what are major achievements so far?

This is a very important project for the UNDP since non-fired bricks support companies to use waste from fossil fuel and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in a way that can be greener, more effective and healthier for the planet. Tiếp tục đọc “Vietnam embraces opportunities to be renewable viable”

vietnamnet 15/04/2019   15:26 GMT+7

The last days of March and early April is the busy period for local farmers in the mudflat areas along the Red and Day Rivers, as the mulberry harvest season begins.

In Hiep Thuan commune, Hanoi’s Phuc Tho district, in recent years, local people have transformed their crops from corn and peanuts to mulberry farming which has helped to bring about high economic efficiency.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is finally going to face the music. According to many across the political spectrum, he is no hero. To a handful of others, he is.

For the last seven years, Assange has avoided accountability for his conduct by holing up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, at a cost of over $3 million. But that ended this week. At a news conference on Thursday, Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno said, “We’ve ended the asylum of this spoiled brat.” Tiếp tục đọc “Finally, Assange Will Face the Legal Cases Against Him”

Slow and Steady: Vietnam’s Spratly Upgrades

April 8, 2019  |  AMTI BRIEF

Vietnam continues to quietly upgrade its facilities in the Spratly Islands, though apparently without facing the same reaction from China’s maritime militia forces as the Philippines recently has. Vietnam occupies 49 outposts spread across 27 features in the vicinity of the Spratly Islands. Of those 27 features, only 10 can be called islets while the rest are mostly underwater reefs and banks.

Spratly Island is the largest of Vietnam’s outposts and the administrative center of its presence in the area. In 2015-16, Vietnam undertook an expansion of the island to extend its small runway and create a protected harbor. In total, Hanoi created about 40 acres of new land at Spratly Island through a process that involved the use of construction equipment to dredge up part of the reef surrounding the island and cover it in sand. This process was more time-consuming and less environmentally disastrous than the methods used for China’s industrial-scale dredging and landfill at its facilities in the Spratlys, but still involved the intentional destruction of coral reef.
