HANOI (Reuters) – Vietnam’s health ministry on Monday reported 14 new coronavirus infections, all among Vietnamese citizens held in quarantine upon their arrival from overseas.
The Southeast Asian country has been 81 days without a domestically transmitted infection due to successful programmes to contain the virus. It has yet to report any deaths from the coronavirus and has confirmed 369 cases in total, over 90% of which have recovered.

Hanoi prioritizes existing carriers Vietnam Air and VietJet

HANOI — Vietnam plans to freeze approval for new entries to the airline industry until 2022, a move that threatens to solidify the virtual duopoly already in place.
The chilled business climate caused by the novel coronavirus makes supporting existing airlines the top priority, Transport Minister Nguyen Van The said.
Currently five commercial airlines operate within Vietnam, but two top players dominate the market. With Australia’s Qantas Airways offloading its 30% stake in Jetstar Pacific, a joint venture with Vietnam Airlines, the state’s move to block additional competition has raised concerns about higher ticket prices. Israel’s annexation of parts of the occupied West Bank has been fiercely criticised by not only Palestinians but by the international community at large.
The plan, which aims to annex all illegal Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank – including the strategic Jordan Valley – amounts to one-third of the territory and is in line with US President Donald Trump’s so-called “Middle East plan,” which envisages a demilitarised Palestinian state on a patchwork of disjointed parts of the Palestinian territories.
