KHÁNH HOÀ — More than 500,000 marine breeders were released in Nha Trang Bay on Sunday by the People’s Committee of Nha Trang in Khánh Hoà Province.

This was one of several activities taking place in response to National Tourism Year 2019 and the Nha Trang-Khánh Hoà Sea Festival.

The breeders included 450,000 shrimp, 3,000 butterfish, 100,000 seabass, and 100,000 molluscs.

The city authority is urging organisations and individuals in the fishery field and local communities to protect and develop marine resources.

As part of the response to the festival, the Khánh Hoà Salangane Nest Company will also release 15,000 breeders of butterfish and seabass into the sea.

These activities are expected to increase the population of marine creatures and the incomes of local fishermen.

Raising public awareness about marine resources is another goal of the activity.

Nha Trang Bay includes 19 islands and a diverse tropical marine ecosystem such as coral reef and mangroves.

However, over the past few years, many natural reefs, which are a habitat for marine life, have been damaged due to rapid development in the province and environmental pollution, damaging marine diversity. — VNS
