The Red Dao ethnic community in the northern province of Lao Cai has a rich culture. Their wedding ceremony is among these cultural features.

A Dan Tri reporter recently attended the wedding ceremony of bride Tan U May and groom Tan A Hin in Pho Village, Ban Quam Commune. The event lasted for two days with most of the activities held at the groom’s family.

YULIN: A notorious Chinese dog meat festival opened on Wednesday (Jun 21) with sellers torching the hair off carcasses, butchers chopping slabs of canines and cooks frying up dishes, dispelling rumours that authorities would ban sales this year.

After earlier reports of a sales ban at the summer solstice event in the southern city of Yulin, animal rights groups said vendors and officials reached a compromise and set a limit of two dogs on display per stall.

Kỳ 1: Làng nói tiếng… cực lạ

TT – Cách trung tâm thủ đô hơn 40km có một ngôi làng toàn người Kinh, nhưng lại có một thứ ngôn ngữ riêng khiến người ngoài làng nghe không thể hiểu.

Dường như mỗi tỉnh đều có một thứ phương ngữ riêng, thậm chí trong mỗi tỉnh thì một vài huyện, xã lại có phương ngữ riêng của mình. Nhưng có một hiện tượng có thể nói là rất lạ: có những làng nói tiếng Việt mà như nói tiếng… nước ngoài. Tiếng nói của họ lạ từ giọng điệu, phát âm cho đến từ ngữ.

Phóng viên Tuổi Trẻ đã tìm đến các “đảo thổ ngữ” ấy và mang về những câu chuyện hết sức thú vị.

30,000 exhibits of Central Highlands people collected by retired police officer

In the past tens of years, Colonel Dang Minh Tam, former officer of the Lam Dong Provincial Police has overcome various difficulties going to rural villages to collect artifacts related to traditions, rituals and lifestyles of ethnic minority people in the Central Highlands in an attempt to preserve the soul of the ethnic minorities amid the “international integration” wave and “cultural artifacts drains”.


The number of artifacts of ethnic minority people in the Central Highlands collected by Mr. Tam has reached tens of thousands.


The “throne” of Elephant’s King. According to its owner, before hunts for elephants in the forest for domestication to serve people, young men from the villages had to ask Elephant’s King for permission. Nguyen dynasty treasures on display in Da Lat

A total of 36 precious artifacts, from the Nguyen dynasty period (1802-1945), are on display at an exhibition that opened recently at Lam Dong museum in Da Lat city.

The artifacts, made of gold and gemstones, include flower vases; daily utensils such as bowls and basins; objects used in royal worship and rituals; and items used in royal office, including brushes, ink stone, paperweights and pen holders.

All of the items were carefully carved with highly sophisticated decorative patterns, showing the talent of Vietnam’s craft masters.

Flax weaving by Mong ethnics in Dong Van Karst Plateau

“Tánh anh nóng nảy, nổi cộc lên thì coi hung lắm, phải đi chùa cho nó trầm tính lại”. Đã một thời, nhiều lần vợ tôi đã nhận xét và đề nghị như vậy.

Ngày xưa, bố tôi theo Tây học, từ Bắc vào Nam làm báo, ra cả báo Pháp và dịch sách, tánh khí nghệ sĩ, phóng dật, khiến cho căn nhà nhỏ của gia đình ở khu Đa Kao thời đó thỉnh thoảng lại chộn rộn cái không khí văn chương chữ nghĩa. Có lần, lấy cớ cần khui một chai rượu chát rất xưa, bố tôi mời vài người bạn thân đến nhà chơi. Cần nói thêm là trong bạn bè của bố tôi thời đó, tôi khoái một bác cùng dân Bắc kỳ, để chút râu kiểu Hitler dưới mũi, thường phong nhã với bộ cánh veston, foulard…,  đó là nhà thơ/nhà văn TCHYA Đái Đức Tuấn. Núp phía sau một bức bình phong, tôi lén theo dõi người lớn nói đủ thứ chuyện trên đời. Chợt tôi nghe bác TCHYA cười, vỗ vai bố tôi, gật gù bảo: “…Vậy là toa cũng rất libéral về vấn đề tôn giáo!”. Co Loa – the oldest citadel in Vietnam

VietNamNet Bridge – Co Loa Citadel was built near Phong Khe, about 20 km to the north of today’s Hanoi, during the end of the Hong Bang Dynasty (about 257 BCE). The fortress is a spiral-shaped complex of the then new capital. The site was the source of various relics of the Dong Son culture of the Bronze Age.

According to folklore, An Duong Vuong defeated the last of the Hung Kings in 257 BCE and founded the kingdom of Au Lac, choosing the site of Co Loa as his capital.

Viet Nam News KHÁNH HÒA — The 2017 Nha Trang Sea Festival, themed “Extending the Circle of Friendship”, opened Saturday night in the central province of Khánh Hòa, with a wide array of artistic, cultural and sporting activities.
